To think this is ever so slightly random?

Text from school this morning (no mention in quite recent newsletter) announcing a 'Samba Summer Day' this coming Thurs (not the last day of term or anything special) where children are invited to come dressed in Brazilian colours.

No mention of usual £1, or any good cause, or the World Cup (which will be well and truly over by then, anyway).

?? Confused

(Someone's now going to tell me it's Brazilian Independence Day on the 17th? Am not in my normal tizz about theme dressing up, as we have a Ronaldo shirt. Grin Just think it's a bit......well, odd.)

Why don't you contact the school and ask for the significance of Brazil and 17 July together?

Whu not a samba day? Sounds fun. Maybe y4 have been learning the samba drums. Maybe it's linked to a topic. Who knows? Who cares? Just enjoy it I say.

And with regards to the date, I imagine it was thr only date where the diary wasn't already filled with productions, leavers' services, end of year discos etc. And as a teacher, there's no way I'd have samba dress up on the last day of term. All those leftover and forgotten sweaty accessories to sort out over the summer holidays? No ta. Give me games, tidy up and a dvd with some party food on the very last day. And don't forget ypur PE kits.

17 July 1994 - Brazil won the cup 3-2 (against Italy).
17 July 2007 - massive airline disaster (runway overshoot), 181 dead.

Or they may have picked Thursday at random.

Yes, it does sound fun, and I know ds will enjoy wearing his Brazil shirt (any excuse for football garb!)

I just wondered why it seems to have been such a hurried, last minute thing (we never normally get texts on a Saturday), and as the most likely connection is the World Cup, why it wasn't organised during the event. I may well ask up at school!

Thanks for replies Smile

We've got a dress in the colours of Spain's flag day on the same day

There must be a correlation but I can't see what Confused
