To think if you pay £50 for a PC repair, then that PC should be repaired?

Foned national computer repair place -knowhow- who told me £50 towards repair around £20 parts, take one week to 10 days max.

This was April
Still no pc
Still no repair
Still no date for repair

Did you send the PC to them? Have you called them? I rather suspect your PC is lost or broken. Either that or it is not a reputable place and you have been the victim of a scam?

I take mine to a little place locally and they sort it in a week.

If it is the place i think - they are shite and customer service is awful.

Took one laptop - was told it need X - paid, and arranged for dad to collect as we were on holiday, dad went X hadn't worked ,now needed Y (megabucks) so did Y and by time I was back - but no laptop - money taken but now they were refusing to mend it as it should have gone to the manufacturer in first place.

I had minor hissy fit in shop - demanded to see manager, turns out they should never have offered to do anything as it needed to go to manufacturer, apparently they only thought X might work - to which I said if they had told me it might not I wouldn't have approved it. Eventually got all repair money back (as none of it had done didley squat) and a hefty reduction off the cost of different laptop as they admitted they had no idea what was wrong and I could keep spending money on useless solutions.

You can contact your local Trading Standards or the one local to those who have your PC.

April and it's now July. I think they lost it. Complain and demand it returned....

I'm in the same boat as you with the same company. They have had the computer since early May. I get a phone call regularly saying they are waiting for a part. If I ask anything more they say they don't know anything else. They are useless.

They've now said it needs a motherboard (it doesn't)

So now stuck paying for a repair it doesn't need (using parts they STILL haven't got) or having it returned broken but no refund

I got told it needed a new motherboard. I argued it didn't and suddenly it needed a new on off switch instead. I'm tempted to contact bbc watchdog programme. Apparently the more people who complain about the same company, the more likely they are to do a feature on them.

Replacing a part in a pc is a 5 minute job. It sounds rather dodgy.

That's very bad. Did you say it was Comet? Write to their Head Office and say that you refuse to pay for work that has not been carried out and if they do not return your still-broken PC forthwith you will be taking matters further with the appropriate bodies.

I used to use a little bloke in a corner shop - it was still £50, but if they didn't fix it then you didn't pay - which is normal decent behaviour!

Kmowhow at PC World is utter shite and totally useless IME. Also very expensive. You are better off with a little PC shop in the street.

I'd send the a letter prior to action if I were you, and then sue.

I am a pathetic mousy person when it comes to complaining, but PC World's Know Nothings enraged me so much when they fucked up my laptop repair (sold by them, broke with weeks, tried to charge me £££ for data recovery when it was their fault the data was potentially lost) that I stood in the middle of the shop throwing an almighty hissy fit until they agreed to do it for free.

I'm still a bit at the memory of the public rage-fest, but it appears to be the only way to get them to right their wrongs.

You're better off going to a high street repair shop rather than a big name. Much better service.

Is it a desktop? Most parts are dead easy to replace yourself.

As I mentioned - they are very good at taking your money - doing a repair that doesn't work(they then claim they never guaranteed it would) and surprise surprise it needs a new motherboard (seems to be their stock answer). Complain. complain., complain - they will refund your money if you stick at them - or in my case a 21 year old DD straight from her 4th night shift (and no sleep) putting her case forcefully (you said you would repair it - you haven't I want my money back ) - she may have had a wild look in her eye that startles most

their strategy appears to be to get you to pay for as many things as they can con you out of. When I said "this is throwing good money after bad , you have no idea if these very expensive repairs are going to work and this laptop is just over a year old (but was under year when we took it in) they caved
