I know it's not technically aibu.

Mine has to be a deep fried mars bar, so sickly but so nice.

Foie gras and chocolate tart. It was a canapé in an afternoon tea and because the pastry tart bit was obviously chocolate, I assumed the brown creamy stuff in it was coffee or chocolate too. It wasn't!

I've eaten century egg. Was utterly vile. And I was hungover. Never to be repeated.

Other than that the weirdest thing was guinea pig (sorry to those that have one as a pet) in Peru where it's a local delicacy. It was deep fried like crispy duck and tasted like porky chicken.

Jelly fish. It was beyond grim.

We live up the road from a crocodile farm. You can go and see the crocodiles in their house thingy and then walk into the farm shop where they have beef and pork alongside crocodile and other weird and wonderful meats.

The fertilised egg was pretty grim. Disturbingly crunchy.

Apart from that I'm not sure the weirdest thing I've eaten. The same mutton stew 3 meals a day for a week in the middle of nowhere with Mongolian nomadic families? Or maybe the South Australian delicacy, a pie floater (meat pie served - sometimes upside down - in a shallow bowl, filled with pea soup).

I could totally go a pie floater right now, actually.

Come on! Has no one mentioned Durian yet? Bastard thin repeated on me too. Didn't taste any better.

I don't mind durian or jackfruit - the smell is worse than the taste!

We had hooves at Qatari dinner the other night. They were especially cooked by our close friend for my husband so we had to wade through them. Very strong flavour (apparently good for the sperm!)

Why does everything taste if chicken. Is it default taste

I know a vegetarian who brought her kids up veggi. One of her teenagers had chicken at someone's house and she asked him what he thought.

"It tastes like quorn"

It's a toss up between the chocolate covered crickets and chocolate ant lolly.

Locusts. Was told they tasted a bit like bacon frazzles. They don't.

Durian is lovely.....you can get Durian jam and biscuits too. One of the best cakes I ever tried was a Durian fudge cake. MIL gave me a packet but they do kinda stink out the biscuit cupboard

Have eaten jellyfish didnt really taste of much and chicken gizzards which were nasty. I have gone off century eggs but I eat chicken feet fairly regularly at dim sum. I draw the line at insects though

I ate spicy ants in Vietnam - it is not an experience I wish to repeat. They got stuck in my throat and my back teeth - felt like there were creepy crawlies in my mouth for hours. shudder

I second andouillettes Verity, had that once and it was a white sausage that managed to stay white during cooking and was all stringy and chewy inside. Bleurgh!

People here have eaten plenty of stuff I wouldn't touch.

Mopani worms are caterpillars [shudder]. I turned them down in favour of giraffe, zebra meat etc. Don't really recommend those either, a bit tough.

I ate some dried (very dried) elephant meat, that was nice.

Someone served me what I though was a peeled and cooked apricot in a dish with lots of other stuff in a Chinese restaurant. I don't mind that it turned out to be a sea slug, was just disappointed that it wasn't an apricot.

I don't think a Durian is extreme food, but to the delight of someone else who fed me some, I gagged and spat out the piece they gave me. What else would you do when something with the taste and smell of concentrated vomit is in your mouth?

Chicken's feet in China. Actually not too bad, a bit glutinous and you had to avoid the claws/toenails...but essentially it just tasted like chicken.

And fermented mare's milk in Mongolia. Really the most revolting thing. Like rotting liquid feta cheese, but about ten times worse than that. Even cow's milk makes me gag so this was the stuff of nightmares. I didn't even attempt to finish it; I reasoned that my hosts would probably be more offended by me vomiting on the floor of their home than not finishing it...!
