To Donkey Stone my steps?

Long story short I live in a block of 4 flats. There are 2 flats top and 2 bottom. I'm on the top.

The stairs leading to mine and my neighbour's flat are made of concrete...they're SO ugly and grubby looking.

There's a white stripe painted on the riser of each and it's all just old and nasty looking.

On the ground floor one of the tenants owns his flat having bought it in the 80s.

I have asked the Housing Association if they're redecorate the communal area and got a flat "no."

The HA is crap...the tenant who owns is a right old jobsworth and if I DARED to buy some non slip paint and paint the steps he'd have me strung up and put in the stocks after that.

So...short of scrubbing the steps with Cif I thought of Donkey Stone.

Apparently you can still buy Donkey Stones in Ashton Under Lyme market...so if there are any Mnrs who live there...will you please get me one and I will pay the cost and postage? Grin

AIBU to Donkey Stone my steps?

Donkey Stone

I think the one white stripe is to highlight the edge of the stair for those who are sight-impaired btw

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:20

The white stripe isn't really the problem..if needed I'll paint it back in and choose a different colour for the steps....or donkey stone around it!

Bloody hell, I've been taken right back to 1948!

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:25

I know Shelagh but me 'ands are tied! Grin I can't 'elp it that the old bugger downstairs doesn't want a respectable stairway! What can I do but go back in bloody time?

Nothing to stop you donning a head-scarf and pinny and sloshing a bucket-full of hot water and zoflora down the stair-well Grin

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:26

My Mum reckons I should go to the man who owns and say "Will you report me if I paint the stairs using the correct, safety paint?"

And then she says it's all "out in the open" and he'll have to be a right miserable bugger to say "Yes I will!"

Give it a good stiff brushing, too

Ooer mrs

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:27

Jenny I think I should! I might do it tomorrow....old fashioned scrubbing brush and a dash of vim or something.

Do you mean Ashton-Under-Lyne?

That's my home town but I only go back at Christmas...

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:28

What if I just painted the riser? Left the bit you stand on grey? Would he moan do you think?

OP posts:
MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:28

Carmine yes yes! That's it. Oh bugger. WHY do you only go back at Christmas? Grin

OP posts:
JennyOnTheBlocks · 08/07/2014 19:29

I used to love Vim

Spent hours running the tap to wet the sink, then sprinkled small amounts of vim to watch all the toxic chemicals pretty colours separate

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:30

I could surreptitiously do the risers....wiat till we're painting the doors which we're allowed to....and then slosh a bit of white on the risers....or should I just try the Donkey Stone?

OP posts:
MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:30

Jenny oh god yes! I forgot about the pretty colours!

Do the whole stair way when he's out at work and claim ignorance if he says anything.

Someone in my mums block painted the stairs in different shades of yellow once. We never found out who did it and after about 8 months the council stripped them back again.

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:31

Bird that's a good idea but he never goes out! The old sod. Angry

MrsWinnibago · 08/07/2014 19:32

He's retired. He goes to the pub for exactly two hours every night at the same time. I think he'd notice if they were painted while he had his regular pints.

He goes out at 8.00am for the paper...then potters in the garden all day.
