Little Shit

AIBU to be a bit cross that a member of staff at Tesco called a school boy a Little Shit. Granted the Boy was messing around at the self service till and he should have known better. But the reaction from the staff member was rude and unprofessional towards a year 7 child.
Member of staff grabbed some receipts boy was messing around with and said to him aggressively "think your funny do you, you little shit". Yes the boy was in the wrong but it didn't warrant the reaction.

Its not an ideal reaction . However, they may have had major problems with the school children mucking around in the store and so he might have been at the end of his tether.

Year 7 children are often little shits though.

So he was a little shit then. The staff member was just telling it like it is.

Not a big deal. He's in the big school now I imagine he hears worse and sounds like he was being a little shit and probably did him some good being told.

Some irritating parent will probably complain to Tesco though.

He was behaving like one. I've seen many children messing around behaving badly in shops, staff must be really fed up. Why was he even touching receipts in the first place.

It was at half past eight this morning so I think woo betide anyone else that pissses the staff member off on his shift today. I'm sure that Tesco do not train their staff to react like that. No idea why the boy was touching the receipts probably he was just showing off infront of his mates.

How do you think they should have handled the situation then?

It's weird, they hire humans and yet don't train every emotion or reaction out of them. It's like they don't care.

It sounds like he was being a little shit. Not everyone has the same tolerance for other people's "darling children!"

I would be embarrassed by his behaviour and take steps to stop him messing around, but would have been really really taken aback that he was called a little shit.
My ds is year 6, and he would be pretty gobsmacked to be called this.

I had a temp job in a shop opposite a big secondary school when I was a student and the amount of low level shoplifting was horrific. Why do you think that so many shops limit the number of school children coming in. I suspect a lot of it was daring their mates to nick something rather than a planned campaign of theft.

There is probably a back story if he was with a group of his mates. This might be a regular occurance.

Well he was being a little shit and is old enough to know better, his parents should get off their lazy arses and teach him how to behave. If you want people to like your kids raise them properly, if you can't be bothered parenting then you have to accept that other people will react not very nicely to their obnoxious and socially inappropriate behaviour.

Regardless of whether he was being a "little shit" or not it's actually very unprofessional of the employee to be telling him that - does he say that to every customer who annoys him?

A woman in my local shop gave my DS the finger because her little boy followed him across the road whilst she wasn't looking - I was in that shop like a shot when he told me - I told them whilst she is wearing their uniform then surely she is representing their company.

So tempting as it is, no-one should be swearing at children.

I don't think it's OK - I totally understand the staff member's frustration and I think would have been fine to tell him off, but "little shit" is a bit beyond the bounds of reasonable IMO. If it wouldn't be OK for the staff member to call an adult that, it's not OK to say it to a child either. And I thik if Tesco staff called any of us a (little or big) shit for fiddling with receipts, we'd be up in arms.

My DC accidentally pushed open a fire door in a supermarket the other day and set off an alarm. It wasn't deliberate, they leaned on it and it opened very easily, but there were messing about (having been told to sit and wait while I tried to get through the till). The staff were lovely and said it was fine.

Old and fat are more personal. If someone called me a big shit in a shop I'd be pissed off had I been innocent, however had I been caught misbehaving then I'd have thought myself lucky.

Called my DS a little shit last night for taking my lost snickers ice cream, should I feel bad? I think I still feel more upset about the ice cream.

In a customer facing role he should have not spoken to the child like this. I have worked in a customer facing role and many a time I was called names by customers. Not once did I respond because it would have been unprofessional of me to do so.
A grown adult speaking to a child like that is not on. Afterall we would like to think that children should respect adults and speak to them in a nice manor.

My DH works in Tesco and some of the children who come in store are indeed little shits and much much worse. He would be disciplined if he actually said it to the them rather than going through the correct procedures to remove the little darlings from store. But hey people are human.

Although I have to say if I had been there the day a 12 year old child spat on my DH because he asked him not to race down the aisles I would've called him a little shit and much much more so there are times when it may be appropriate.
