My celeb-loving friend is driving me mad ... AIBU?

This is massively petty but it's doing my head in!

This friend of mine is really into the doings of celebrities - who's shagging who, who's lost weight, who's kids are acting up - and chats away about them as if she knows them all well. She posts her thoughts about them on facebook and takes it all very seriously. I don't care. I don't want to spend the evening discussing something about someone neither of us will ever meet that's probably been cooked up in ten minutes by some journo to fit round a pile of randomly papped photos.

I love her and don't want to hurt her feelings but I didn't evolve out of the primal slime for this sort of twonkery!

Gah. Right. Rant over. Tell me I'm a horrible snob and I need to get over myself.

Wow.

Does she not realise that they're putting on a front for the public and most stories are thought up by heat magazine to acompany the dodgy airbrushed photos.

GretchenWiener · 08/07/2014 00:36

Was she not always like his?

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 08/07/2014 00:36

Although I suppose it's no different to following a soap

UsedtobeFeckless · 08/07/2014 09:27

I've sobered up now and decided it's no worse than me obsessing over characters from Game of Thrones or Sons of Anarchy or whatever and she's basically a thoroughly good egg so IABVU and will shut up henceforth. Grin

Pch..if only all AIBUs were like this.... Grin

That was quite civil.

UsedtobeFeckless · 08/07/2014 09:55

It's more fun if there's a huge row, though ... So you're all mean and awful bullies for not agreeing with me ( even though I don't agree with me either, now )

... And ... FLOUNCE.

People like this baffle me.

I mean really, who fucking cares who's shagging who, who has lost weight, whatever. Don't these people have their own lives to focus on?

PinkHamster · 08/07/2014 11:45

Although I suppose it's no different to following a soap

That's even worse IMO.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/07/2014 11:46

Oh dear....you friend sounds like she needs to get a life bless her.

TalcumPowder · 08/07/2014 11:57

I think there's a difference between posting in FB and actually expecting you to discuss which C-lister is boffing who. Does she actually engage you in conversation about this? If so, just say you have no idea who these people are. I do this - I have, as I genuinely gave no idea who these people are -and it's guaranteed to kill any conversation stone dead.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 08/07/2014 12:12

How bizarre.

You could run with it, I suppose.

'Gosh Friend, have you heard the really secret news... apparently only whispered on a couple of really select sites... Kerry Katona is having a sex change/Jeremy Irons is having a third arm fitted to his back/Benedict Cumbersome is training to be an architect/Myleene Klass has been trampled by hamsters?'
