To ask if anyone knows of a good evening date venue in Birmingham

My brother (late 40s) is working in Birmingham next week and has an evening date with a woman he's met via OD.

He wants to impress her by taking her somewhere interesting so they can chat and get to know each other, but fears everywhere will be loud and inhabited by 20 to 30 year olds.

Any thoughts from those of you with local knowledge?

Brindley Place has lots of different restaurants, from coffee shops, pubs and chains to handmade burger places, Mexicans, Chinese through Carluccio's and fine dining like Edmund's. We, personally, like The Pickled Piglet (though I've not been in the evening): it's quirky, central and serves interesting food. In the centre, there are fancy restaurants like Opus or Purnell's Bistro and Ginger's Bar. There are allsorts of food options in The Mailboxand The Cube, too, all central, some al fresco.

Another vote for brindley place here, there are plenty of different places and they can have a nice walk by the canals while deciding where to go.

The Ikon gallery in BrindleyPlace is fab, in fact anywhere in the BrindleyPlace vicinity is. Stay off Broad Street and the Arcadian area, they are loud and full of the youngsters.

I'm another one for Brindleyplace. Live and work in central Birmingham.

Lots of bars - but Piccolino and Bank are both excellent restaurants with bars. Bank is a bit posher so maybe 2nd / 3rd date. Back in my single online dating days, All Bar One Brindleyplace was my choice. Very buzzy, plenty of seating, nice and busy so I felt safe plus brindleyplace has plenty of car parking and fairly short walk from New St station

Pasta di Piazzo is also great, as is Fumo both close to Snow Hill Station / Bennets Hill.

Purnell's bistro near snow hill station is lovely.

I like Fumo by St Phillip's. It's chiccetti (Italian small plates). It's part of the San Carlo group but more relaxed.

I like Brindley Place. Mailbox is great but undergoing renovations. The canal side is open. I like Marco Piers White, it has great views.

Purnells bistro is lovely. Maybe the jewellery quarter, some nice pubs around there. Mailbox has some very classy bars.

Champagne Bar at Indigo Hotel to really 'cut a dash'!

Bar Epernay is posh and over priced, but very nice.

I have heard good things about Fumo, and San Carlo is good too, but can get crowded so a reservation might be necessary.

Hotel du Vin is quiet and nice too. But agree with most of the postings on this thread.

Fumo does seem to be the "in" place for 40 somethings at the moment.

I'm not a fan of San Carlo as I think it's overpriced & not a great atmosphere but love Fumo - no reservation needed & lovely cocktails (it's Italian tapas). We go there occasionally but neither me nor any of my friends are over 40 & always seems to be a mix of ages.

This thread is making me want to go out!
