Personalisation - temporary?

So, we ordered a mug from a well known store and asked for personalisation (it was an option) - added the maximum 25 letters and then ordered. Photos show said mug from various angles including one with a plain white gift tag.
You can guess the rest.
Order email says personalisation 2.95 and despatch email today says white gift tag 2.95.
Store have confirmed that personalisation is a blardy tag. That we could have written and stuck on it.
AIBU to think this is a cheek and not actually very personal?

From their website, it's saying that personalised items are non-returnable. It depends how rigidly they'll stick to their Terms & Conditions, you might have to push them for a refund, a lot. Hopefully not though.

From previous jobs I would say it's very unlikely they'll refund it, and if they do, it'll be time-consuming.

I don't understand why they wouldn't allow you to remove the tag and return the mug though, to at least get a refund on the cost of the mug. Hmm

Thanks, what I've said is that I would have gone and bought one in our nearby disney store and paid for the lovely wrapping if I'd understood it couldn't be personalised.
Glad I'm not alone - the only vaguely similar thing is a metal permanent tag attached to a lunch bag.
Yes, it probably won't come to anything; it's just the principle.

I hope you do get the money back Nerf, at the very least for the mug, if they refuse to refund the tag.

Unfortunately, from experience, it seems there are some companies who will happily bend the rules depending on the situation, but some won't budge at all. :/ I know I sound cynical, sorry! Disney may well be one of the good guys. :) And as you say, maybe it'll make them take a look at how they word the description on the website.

m.disneystore.co.uk/guest-services/personalisation/mn/1333502/

And this is the page they linked me to in their answer telling me it would be a gift tag.If it's a permanent gift tag I will apologise.

#7 on that page says, "There will be an image of a personalized message on the product page indicating where the message will appear on the product, what font will be used, and what color the text will be in."

Was there anything like that when you ordered your item? It's pretty lame to market a gift tag as personalization.

Nerf · 09/07/2014 13:33

No, just a space to add writing. To be fair, I didn't read the personalisation link before ordering as it just didn't occur to me it would be anything other than the other mugs with names on. It also didn't show a felt gift tag saying 'xyz' when I ordered - that would have alerted me!

I looked at the US Disney Store link, but they don't have that exact mug so I can't tell what's available here.

I'd try to return it if I were you. It feels like false advertising to me.

Thank you Steff! Long distance support! Have to say, this is the politest AIBU I have ever been on.

Bloody Disney!! And presumably what you chose in terms of personalisation ("Fred" or whatever) is somewhat different from what you'd have chosen for a gift card message ("To dear Fred with much love from Nerf")...

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 09/07/2014 14:11

Yes Nerf, disappointingly you are being so very UR. And the antagonist is a well known rip off merchant (literally).

Nerf · 09/07/2014 15:17

Optimist - yes! Originally it was going to read 'incredible X's mug' Grin

No joke, that bloody elsa doll.

UterusUterusGhali · 09/07/2014 21:16

That's so lame!

phantomnamechanger · 09/07/2014 21:39

I don't think Disney have a leg to stand on TBH - their own website states very clearly what the 4 forms of "personalisation" available are, depending on the product - NOWHERE on that page does it mention a crappy gift tag!

Nerf · 09/07/2014 22:01

Thanks - I've had a mild panic attack over naming Disney, but I've been accurate I think, and just wanted to see if I was missing something. Smile

Don't need to worry. Disney have a product on offer which confused you. You are raising awareness of this potential confusion so others don't make it.

And the mug looks pretty good so it's free advertising!
