To despair at dog owners

Aaaaaaaaaaarg. Grrrrrr. Angry

I was sitting with dh and dc in the park sharing a pizza between us which we had got from a nearby restaurant. Suddenly dh leaps up and grabs a dog that was about to jump on us whilst we were sat on the ground eating our food. He had to hold on to the dog until it's owner a stupid fuckwitt cunt woman came (about a minute later). The woman made no serious attempt to call her blood pet (massive in size, some sort of mutt). She just meekly called whispered "emmieeeeee, eeeeeeemmiee" but unsurprisingly stupid dog didn't listen to fuckwitt woman at all.

She then proceeded to tell us the classic line "he's harmless" to which I responded "well I still don't want him jumping on me, the dc or our food.

She had the bloody cheek to answer back "the park is for everyone and that we should get used to dogs". I said "sure, i'lm used to dogs but still don't want one humping me, the baby or slobbering my food".

She went on to say some more tosh and I warned her that I would call the police as it was clear that she couldn't control her bloody dog.

She went off in a huff but not without lecturing me that I should not be rude to her in front of the dc.

Seriously, how can some dog owners be sooooooo blooooody stupid? I don't get it. I love dogs, hope to have our own dog one day but I will make damn sure to train the dog and not allow it to bother other people.

If you choose to eat food out side you will be bother by either
Dogs pigeons seagulls insect wasps and bees.
So you should only get out the food you are eating at time not leave food out as bait so said other creatures. If you have young kids with you it up to give them bite sizes peaces , so not to attact said creatures.

And of. Course the only creature you can moan about on mums net are dogs .
Boring thread learn to eat out side safely .

Whoknowswhocares · 06/07/2014 23:03

I am absolutely boggling at the idea that people should modify their children's behaviour in order not to upset a fucking dog.

Ok, I'll spell it out for you. Screaming near, lunging towards a dog, roughly handling it or handling it AT ALL without the express permission of its owner is dangerous and stupid.
I am absolutely boggling that anyone would not modify their children's behaviour to keep them safe around dogs or any other animal quite frankly.

MyFairyKing · 06/07/2014 23:03

Why ask if you're BU and get shirty because some people disagree with what you're saying?! That said, most people said YANBU so no idea why you founded.

Am I the only one craving pizza now?

GreeboOgg · 06/07/2014 23:05

Most people don't get enraged about it, whether it be dogs or kids...if I were you I wouldn't bother getting a dog one day. I feel your expectations may be too high.

I've seen dogs suddenly bolt from the obedience ring because there's a sandwich or sausage roll being eaten somewhere in the car park Grin

Although lets be fair, if your dog smells a pizza on the floor before you've clocked it, it's better to apologise and move on than allow your embarrassment to make you defensive and rude because then there's going to be a MN thread about what a crap human being you are

ScouseBird8364 · 06/07/2014 23:05

ffallada I agree wholeheartedly with your posts

Staywithme · 06/07/2014 23:06

Am I the only one craving pizza now?

Would you like dog with that? Grin

Cruikshank · 06/07/2014 23:08

How, exactly, is that 'the same token'? Dogs are not people.

Cruikshank · 06/07/2014 23:10

I think I need to move to a country with a more enlightened attitude. Only on a UK forum would you get people equating children with dogs and indeed not only equating them but giving their filthy shitting animals precedence over children. People in other countries are appalled by our attitudes towards pets.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 06/07/2014 23:11

For the record I'm not mad on free range kids either but they don't tend to jump on/lick/scratch/cause my child to have a panic attack

Staywithme · 06/07/2014 23:14

People in other countries are appalled by our attitudes towards pets.

You mean people that don't like pets in other countries are appalled by our attitudes towards pets. I think you'll find that people who like animals have a similar attitude the world over but don't let that get in the way of your hatred for animals.

GreeboOgg · 06/07/2014 23:14

People in other countries are appalled by our attitudes towards pets.

Yes, usually people from countries with poor animal welfare standards coupled with a general lack of respect for animals. Which I assume you share, given you refer to dogs as 'filthy shitting animals'. I wonder if you carry the same disdain for all non-human species?

Either way, enjoy your flight.

I once had a loopy spaniel come and jump at me as I sat on a bench watching the dc's & dh play football in the park. He was being all bouncy and friendly but I had a takeaway hot cup of coffee and didn't fancy it in my lap.

Couldn't see anyone rushing to claim him so I got a spare dog lead out of my bag and tethered him to the other end of the bench. Cue outraged owner appearing as if by magic. I told her tough shit, he was being a nuisance and likely to scald himself with hot coffee. She berated me for not understanding dogs. I pointed out that I was in fact (at the time) secretary of the local dog obedience school and I didn't recognise her or her dog so perhaps she might like to think about investing in teaching her dog some much needed manners.

Shut her right up. She never did appear at the dog club though.

That was one of the few times that I actually had a sarcastic comeback ready and waiting. Doesn't happen much. I'd forgotten all about it. Grin

Cruikshank · 06/07/2014 23:18

Actually, most of the world's population have a fairly pragmatic attitude towards animals. It's only in the UK that you get this weird anthropomorphic thinking. Maybe they've watched too many Disney films.

Whoknowswhocares · 06/07/2014 23:18

Ah yes, the greener grass of other countries.
Shame they are so often filled with filthy, stinking strays that steal your pizza though, eh?

VeganCow · 06/07/2014 23:23

Haha Cruikshank. You are obviously not a dog lover. People in other countries are not appalled at all..in some parts of Europe dogs are given a higher status than here, allowed in restaurants etc..

I much prefer dogs to squealing, disobedient, entitled little shit kids.

France allows dogs in restuarants, I think.

Maybe French dogs are better behaved like their children?

GreeboOgg · 06/07/2014 23:28

Actually, you can have a pragmatic attitude towards your pets and livestock and still treat them with kindness and respect (no anthropomorphism required).

saintlyjimjams · 06/07/2014 23:28

I remember once someone had set up a picnic on the beach (in an idiotic place by the by - the tide was coming in). They had a blanket and sandwiches and fruit bowl and everything. The dog - very young then- and ds1 (severely autistic) ran towards it but from different directions and I had to make a quick decision of who to grab. I grabbed the dog, ds1 filched an apple from the fruit bowl, picnickers were nice and didn't seem to mind. And anyway they had to shift everything backwards to stop it getting eaten by the tide, let alone ds1/ Dog went back on his lead until we were past (most of the beach was empty & I really wasn't expecting a picnickers on an autumn out of season day in the tidal bit - it was the time of year when the beach is populated by dogs and surfers/kite surfers/windsurfers)

saintlyjimjams · 06/07/2014 23:30

People in other countries are appalled by our attitudes towards pets. Have you never been to Paris and dodged the mounds and mounds of dog poo on the pavements? I made the mistake of wearing straw flipflops out to dinner.

Whoknowswhocares · 06/07/2014 23:32

So in summary.

Dogs should be kept under control at all times.
So should children.
People who compare dogs to children are idiots.
Oh and Cruikshank doesn't like dogs all that much.
But really, really likes winding people up Grin

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 06/07/2014 23:35

Corus damn, rumbled. Grin

I am also very good at MNetting from the afterlife.

MyFairyKing · 06/07/2014 23:36

I have just noticed the OP's username. Grin

UncleT · 06/07/2014 23:36

Yes ffallada, I read it alright. Well-trained dog or not, the attitude that came across was ridiculous and I stand by the comment completely.

OorWullie · 06/07/2014 23:38

I'm not really a dog lover, but it is unfair of you to make such a sweeping generalisation.

I'm not denying that the woman you encountered today was a twat, but not all dog owners are daft enough to let their dog loose if they can't properly control it when it's off the lead, and not all dog owners would be so unapologetic if something did go a but wrong. It's the attitude of the person in general that matters, not whether they own a dog or not.
