To despair at dog owners

Aaaaaaaaaaarg. Grrrrrr. Angry

I was sitting with dh and dc in the park sharing a pizza between us which we had got from a nearby restaurant. Suddenly dh leaps up and grabs a dog that was about to jump on us whilst we were sat on the ground eating our food. He had to hold on to the dog until it's owner a stupid fuckwitt cunt woman came (about a minute later). The woman made no serious attempt to call her blood pet (massive in size, some sort of mutt). She just meekly called whispered "emmieeeeee, eeeeeeemmiee" but unsurprisingly stupid dog didn't listen to fuckwitt woman at all.

She then proceeded to tell us the classic line "he's harmless" to which I responded "well I still don't want him jumping on me, the dc or our food.

She had the bloody cheek to answer back "the park is for everyone and that we should get used to dogs". I said "sure, i'lm used to dogs but still don't want one humping me, the baby or slobbering my food".

She went on to say some more tosh and I warned her that I would call the police as it was clear that she couldn't control her bloody dog.

She went off in a huff but not without lecturing me that I should not be rude to her in front of the dc.

Seriously, how can some dog owners be sooooooo blooooody stupid? I don't get it. I love dogs, hope to have our own dog one day but I will make damn sure to train the dog and not allow it to bother other people.

I despair of the vast majority of people TBH. But hey ho.

dilys4trevor · 06/07/2014 22:07

Now that sounds annoying lampygirl

Generally, people should try and make sure their dogs and kids don't approach each other and if they do, call them away clearly and firmly immediately, unless permission is clear. Should work both ways. Why EVERYONE can't just live by this I am not sure. No-one has more right to the park than anyone else, regardless of how often they use it.

One of my DC has recently started cooing over every passing dog on a lead. I always call him back and say something like 'lovely dog, but don't bother him as he may not want to play' and if the owner says 'oh, he can stroke him', I sometimes let him but it's always at my/our own risk. Equally, some owners understandably don't want to stop every few minutes to let clumsy toddlers pet their dogs and I can well understand that!

Justmydarlinpet · 06/07/2014 22:12

Of course I despair at some dog owners not all but there are rather many thoughtless and selfish dog owners around or perhaps I attract them somehow. Hmm

Today I encountered three mindless dog owners.

  1. A guy with two scary pit bull type of dogs that once crowded me and my mum when I was heavily pregnant. There was no one else around at the time and dog owner was far away and didn't call back the dogs but watched us for a good few minutes standing still huddled together jumped at by two scary looking dogs. He didn't do anything weird today but I got reminded of the scary incident.
  1. At the restaurant when said pizza was bought, another large dog jumped me and my toddler. I called out in surprise; at least the dog owner apologised and got the dog away.
  1. Pizza dog and fuckwitt owner.

I have nothing against dogs in parks (of course not) but it cannot be right that people allow their dogs to bother others. Just as it's not right to bother or disturb other people in any other way.

England is the only country (I know of) where people regularity compare dogs with kids and where, to some, dogs have equal status to children.

Dogs are animals. I like dogs but I detest meek 'city' owners who have no control over their animals. It's pathetic and antisocial.

Don't want to nit pick but this confused me [confusd]

So it was 2 today not 3 given the past tense of number 1?

DottyDooRidesAgain · 06/07/2014 22:17

What the hell is a city owner?

Someone calling bingo Grin

dilys4trevor · 06/07/2014 22:20

I guess OP means she saw him again today, even if nothing happened. He had been mindless on a previous occasion and today she saw him. So technically, it was three mindless owners, although only two incidents.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 06/07/2014 22:24

I think I might have stayed in the restaurant to eat after already been jumped by a dog tbh

Justmydarlinpet · 06/07/2014 22:26

dilys4trevor yes that's what mean.

Dotty strange response to my post.

My DH and I went to a popular seaside walk with our 2 yorkies and two tiny schnauzers and then to a cafe. The dogs were put into our air conditioned vehicle. After we arrived staff were being pestered by 8-10 kids on bikes that looked to be between 10-14 years old. They had been bullying two kids that had sheltered in the cafe. They then preceded to call me a paedo because they overheard me talking about them. The police were eventually called as I was too nervous to leave with my very ill husband and they were bothering other people. But of course your hands are tied as the little darlings have to be protected. Hmm Wish people would keep their kids under control over the holidays and stop letting them harass others that are out just having a nice day. At least my dogs were on a lead.

"I think I might have stayed in the restaurant to eat after already been jumped by a dog tbh"

What good would that have done. I was jumped I at the restaurant. is nowhere safe?

ffallada neatly demonstrates why this is such a regular topic of discussion on here, and also why so many people are getting pig sick of irresponsible dog ownership.

Justmydarlinpet · 06/07/2014 22:31

Hahaha staysithme you just proved my point. Only in England do people compare children with dogs. Hmm

Sorry about your dh though! I hope he is ok.

DottyDooRidesAgain · 06/07/2014 22:34

Why was it strange just?

Silverdaisy · 06/07/2014 22:34

I agree we should keep dogs under control, but I Also think there are some out of control children who ruin the day out for others.

So I don't agree that as a country we should put up with badly behaved children and not dogs.

Op I know that wasn't what you were saying either .

Cruikshank · 06/07/2014 22:35

Soon as the good weather happens people bring their children and food and assume they can just plonk themselves anywhere and do what they like. >

Well, that's because they can sit anywhere and do what they like. If you and your precious dog can't cope with that, maybe it's time to buy your own private country estate. Or alternatively, put a little time into training your dog so that he doesn't menace the other people whose taxes pay for the park to be in existence.

ScouseBird8364 · 06/07/2014 22:36

Oh my word, only read your OP, none of the replies yet, because your post just made me angry! I completely agree with her, if your concern is with your food, then yes, you should have eaten it at a table, it's a park, what else did you expect?! ShockAngry

Staywithme · 06/07/2014 22:38

That's really not true 'just'. My dogs are well behaved and under my control. There is no comparison between their behaviour and that of the little darlings we met yesterday. Grin Furthermore I think you will find that there are more than English posters on this site.

LizzieMint · 06/07/2014 22:39

We seem to get this kind of thing regularly. The footpath we use to get to school is also used by lots of dogwalkers, generally with dogs off the lead. I've lost count of how many times big dogs have bounded over to us, no owner in sight. My DS and smallest DD are terrified of dogs and I've been in the situation where DD is screaming in the pram because the dog is snuffling/licking at her, DS is cowering round my legs sobbing and trying to hide in the smallest place possible so the dog doesn't notice him and the owner saunters into view and ALWAYS ALWAYS will say 'oh, he's very friendly, he won't bite'.

That's not really the bloody point though, is it?
Also had dogs eating our picnic in the local park too, having run too far away from the owner for them to be able to be heard. They did make it over to us and again, no apology, only 'oh but he's sooo friendly'
I used to be quite neutral about dogs, we had dogs growing up but have always been more of a cat person, but I'm getting pretty sick of them now.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 06/07/2014 22:39

What sort of restaurant has dogs jumping around in it

Justmydarlinpet · 06/07/2014 22:42

So when people go to parks they should not sit down and eat with unless they are happy to be humped by large dogs. Okaaaaay.

Why is it not possible to criticise a dog owner's inability to control their dog without everyone shouting "but kids are badly behaved too and should be controlled". My Op has nothing to do with children being badly behaved.

OP posts:
GreeboOgg · 06/07/2014 22:42

TBH my dog is better behaved and more obedient than many children I come across.

I despair of parents.

Justmydarlinpet · 06/07/2014 22:43

"What sort of restaurant has dogs jumping around in it "
The sort that have an outside area where people dine.
