And every other item of clothing left in the washing basket.

She has also descaled the kettle, cleaned the fishtank and made a cake.

She sounds like my wonderful MIL.

My kitchen-cleaning, laundry-doing, big-glass-of-wine-pouring, beloved MIL.

Love that woman Grin

Your MIL sounds lovely.

All of us with DS's should be taking notes:

  1. Iron pants
  2. no tutting
  3. make delicious Cake
  4. pay proper attention to fish tank maintenance.
  5. no criticism of parenting skills (see point 2 above)

I just met my partner's mum the other day. We had conversations including one about how silly it is to keep your house really really clean all the time and how some people seem to do nothing but housework. Then she fed us the most absolutely delicious home made plum cake I have ever tasted. No idea what she thought of me but I thought she was ace! Grin

My ex MIL used to bleach my mugs. Not with Steradent, with actual bleach.

Mine thought it appropriate to have a go at me because I hadn't ironed my sons clothes when he was about 2 months old. She's a * psycho. There's a reason why the mother in law is the most hated family member. Why on earth would anyone willingly iron someone else's underwear?!?!

When I was a teenager I had a lovely boyfriend, who had a lovely mum. They lived in Cornwall and we used to go and stay in the holidays from uni for a few weeks. She would always offer to put things through the wash while we were there, but had a very old twin tub that required copious time standing over and poking about with huge sticks to get anything clean (before you ask this was in the 80s !) so I rarely took her up on this. I have a very vivid of memory of one trip, when I had my period, I stashed my dirty knickers in my case after use, as you do. One day when we came in from a day out, all my knickers were draped over the radiators, drying. She had been through my bag to find my dirty washing, and spent the afternoon prodding my period pants in a twin tub. She ironed them the next morning too..... I was a very mortified teen!

She was lively though, barking but lively and I do miss her now !

My lovely, sweet, gentle MiL used to love ironing my DDs' clothes. She used to sing to herself happily and whilst ironing and then make dinner. Dear lady.

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 05/07/2014 23:06

My dmil comes to drink wine and wind ds up - I love her!

My own dmum is very houseproud and thinks I'm a complete minger. I'm not much of a complete slattern but way off her standards.

She took a load of ironing when I was in hospital with baby ds for a few weeks. Me and dp pissed ourselves laughing when he tried to put his jeans on - she's ironed them so flat he could barely get them on and walking was only possible with a John Wayne swagger.

My Dmum is tiny - where do our mothers get their ironing strength from??

catsofa · 06/07/2014 00:58

It's sheer, bloody minded, dogged determination!

Morloth · 06/07/2014 01:47

My MIL does stuff like this, we'll she used to with the tutting.

But I think she figured out after the first few years that I am unashamedly lazy and if someone wants to clean my house then listening to tutting is A-OK with me!

She can't help herself though, she still cleans, she just doesn't tut anymore.
