And every other item of clothing left in the washing basket.

She has also descaled the kettle, cleaned the fishtank and made a cake.

Littlepeas- yes, a horrendous pair of lacy crotchless knickers. They'd been recently used so really not appropriate for mil to wash! It's

AtYourCervix · 05/07/2014 20:46

MiL actually bought us our iron when we moved in together 19 years ago.

She's the only one who uses it.

OP posts:
magpiegin · 05/07/2014 20:46

It's of course never been mentioned.....

AtYourCervix · 05/07/2014 20:47

She's probably bitchin about me on GransNet as we speak. Bless her.

Magpie - are you certain they are yours? Maybe she has mixed them up with hers? And is too Blush to aks.

After seeing the post title I ironed my pants, not sure it is helpful..?

summertimeandthelivingiseasy · 05/07/2014 21:00

My DMIL used to iron socks, clean the bin, clear out the plugholes and clean the black mold off the bathroom window (not double glazed).

I managed to persuade her not to bother with the knickers (ruins the elastic).

I miss her Sad

summertimeandthelivingiseasy · 05/07/2014 21:01

I used to feel offended too.

Grew out of it though.

She was lovely to talk to too.

barrackobana · 05/07/2014 21:12

This is such a nice thread Smile we need more of this on MN.

londonrach · 05/07/2014 21:15

As I mentioned my mil is broken at the moment.. Can borrow yours op until she's mended please. (Despite begging her not sure she's going to have op but I can hope as it lovely for her yo walk without pain)

BarefootShirl · 05/07/2014 21:15

Thankfully MIL has never done the ironing here - much as I love her I strongly suspect that her understanding of what constitutes knickers would be somewhat different to the bits of lace and ribbon that I (and increasingly DD as she has got older) consider to be perfectly acceptable and I really don't want to have that conversation!

AtYourCervix · 05/07/2014 21:20

I've just discovered some very clean kitchen cupboards Grin

She did give D2 a finger dipped in gravy when she was 4 months old.

As D2 promptly leant over and helped herself to a roast potato I couldn't say anything really.

My MIL brings her own food and crockery to ours (but eats my chocolates without asking), commandeers the remote control so we have to watch shite like BGnoTalent, makes sarky comments on my fb statuses, drinks all my wine again without asking and starts huge rows with DH whenever they are together longer than a day. She drives me mad and I am thankful every day that she lives 250 miles away :)

Pico2 · 05/07/2014 21:28

She has also never once blamed me for being a bad mother.

Do you mean that she acknowledges that you are a bad mother, but doesn't think you are responsible for your inability to mother well?

I don't think I married well. My MIL offers to do stuff, but the only time I actually asked her to do anything (sort out some drinks for guests) she said "oh, I couldn't, FIL always does that". How hard can it be?

EddieStobbart · 05/07/2014 21:30

I had this. She was being kind (irons everything) but I really didn't want my big granny period pants ironed, no I really really did not.

redexpat · 05/07/2014 21:37

Sounds as if she is atYOURcervix!

AtYourCervix · 05/07/2014 21:39

I am a bad mother but she's never held me responsible nor criticised me for it.

NormHonal · 05/07/2014 21:44

May I ask, how does one disable the tutting of a MIL? Or at least turn the volume down sufficiently that one can allow oneself to be a total slattern and let MIL do all of that with a clean conscience?

Mine has a persistent tut, has done since the day I acquired her. Hmm

Celticchick10 · 05/07/2014 21:47

My nan told me ironing underpants and knickers kills bugs!!!!!!

AtYourCervix · 05/07/2014 21:48

No idea. I don't think she does tutting.

She once took me aside to ask if DH was 'keeping me short' and to see if she should tell him to give me extra.

I didn't like to shatter her illusions and tell her I earnt twice what H did.

OP posts:
Beastofburden · 05/07/2014 21:52

Are you sure she was talking about money, OP? Perhaps she was concerned about the underwear situation.

mineofuselessinformation · 05/07/2014 22:18

Just realised you weren't talking about a small child's frilly dresses! Shock
Goes back to sit in corner hoping no-one noticed.

xvxvxvxvxvxvxvxv · 05/07/2014 22:18

My nan irons knickers to 'kill the germs' Confused
