hi everyone just posting this to hear what others think!we have a 3 year old called finlay& brother in law has just had a son who they have named Finn. they told the rest of the family that would be their boys name during pregnancy except us so they obviously thought it might upset us? mil told us before the birth (she was annoyed&didnt like idea).
we have obviously not said anything&behaved normally,& congratulated them etc but we're secretly a bit miffed!
are we being silly?

After with other posters. It's a very common name. I'm a teacher and have taught many Finlay's and Finn's over the years.

Everyone "steals" names. We hear a name, like it (or don't) and then use it. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and concentrating more on the end credits of programmes rather than the shows for name inspiration!

Unless you make up a name from scratch it's already been someone's name!

My baby was due before sil's and I got given a long list of names I couldn't use Hmm

One I was keen on, but in the end, when ds2 was born, he was so obviously a different name to any on the list though I was tempted just to wind her up
