to expect the tax credit calculator to give figures that resemble the amount I'm actually entitled to?

Dh took a pay cut this year to move to a job closer to home. I did the tax credit calculator and it said we should get about £700 as we've been under paid (couldn't tell them straight away as we needed his p60 to give exact amount. Anyway, letter has arrived saying they owe nothing. Doesn't specify what we'll get this year so will just have to wait and see. I don't understand. What's the point of the calculator if it's completely inaccurate? Doesn't really encourage accurate budgeting either. So frustrating.

The letter you just had is probably for the previous year, and the calculator would be looking at the new year?

If you've got a few hours to spare you could always try ringing them up...
