He spent the last seven weeks up in his room making this (while I'm downstairs looking after the kids). He says it's covertly feminist and not a dig at me. Confused: www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_2237807847&feature=iv&src_vid=akDyMhBqXME&v=4WIUjd7mUFY

I'm not putting it up to invite criticism. I actually think it's good but I don't think it's feminist. It's strange for sure and I just wonder what other people's take on it is. So am appreciating responses...

That's an insult to FotC Bran.

Their brand of obscure and silly is always underpinned by witty and observant lyrics and brilliant wordplay.

OP's husband's video is pointless, repetitive drivel that makes no sense and doesn't even attempt to be witty or insightful.

Like I said, he needs a new hobby. Painting rocks might be a nice one for him. Or making paper airplanes. Something nice and unchallenging.

CanaryYellow · 03/07/2014 15:02

I'm not going to watch it, I can gather from PP's comments that it's utter shit.

Plus, this is the most blatant "bump up the number of hits on my DH's video" thread I've ever seen.

KirjavaTheCat · 03/07/2014 15:05

Is... this his job?

BadLad · 03/07/2014 15:07

I don't know whether it is sexist or not, but it is absolutely shit.

Are you married to David Brent? This is the sort of thing I can imagine him doing with those dolls.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 03/07/2014 15:19

Aginm I dont understand its intent. Is this for work? Is this instead of work? Is this a response to something? Has he always shown interest in Feminism or is this just a random video? Has he alsway made videos?

lascar · 03/07/2014 15:21

He's a video maker but this is a new departure...
Not David Brent. It is his job though. This is a bit on the side...

OP posts:
MrsWinnibago · 03/07/2014 15:22

He may be a video maker but a writer he aint!

MrsWinnibago · 03/07/2014 15:22

Tell him to team up with someone who writes well...someone with experience writing comedy.

Heels99 · 03/07/2014 15:23

Who would put up with their dh making shit videos all day? FGS

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/07/2014 15:24

Maybe he could tackle racism in his next oeuvre. Or slavery.

Berryglitter · 03/07/2014 15:26

Well that was a waste of my time. It's shit, unfunny and he needs to look for something else to do.

catinbootz · 03/07/2014 15:32

What a load of fucking shite.

And you're married to this douche-bag?

JohnFarleysRuskin · 03/07/2014 15:47

Blimey, some harsh criticism here.

No artist arrives fully formed/funny- they have to Put in the hours/weeks/months and practise and experiment with new stuff. It's not a waste of time anymore than anything else is.

Having said that, it was crap, although I liked the dolls.

CoffeeTea103 · 03/07/2014 15:54

7 weeks for that Shock

MonkeyDLuffy · 03/07/2014 16:00

Tell him not to give up his day job.

RahRahRasputin · 03/07/2014 16:03

A terrible video, and I don't really see how it's feminist. Especially in light of the fact that he spent 7 weeks doing this while his wife did all of the childcare Hmm4

Branleuse · 03/07/2014 16:07

i

well i dont think its comedy genius, but i think peoples criticisms are way OTT. He hasnt even posted this up himself.

keyboard warriors

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 03/07/2014 16:09

Im not a keyboard warrior in the slightest. I would say it to his face if I knew him.

I agree with the point made by RahRah totally!

MostWicked · 03/07/2014 16:23

It is utterly meaningless shit.
Whatever he was trying to achieve, he failed.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/07/2014 16:41

RahRah nailed it.

Heels99 · 03/07/2014 16:51

Did he not get paid for 7 weeks whilst doing this?

TheListingAttic · 03/07/2014 17:11

I'm going to diverge from the conclusion of previous posters - in focus, if not in opinion: Yes, it's sexist. It also sounds like a dig at you. If I'd spend the week taking care of the house while my husband dicked around on a video that included lines like "if I were a woman I'd take care of everything while my man got on with his stuff" and "if I were a woman I might listen to what other people have to say once in a while" and "times have changed but you don't need to change, I'm the one that needs to change" then I'd be someway past hacked off.

(Obviously those quotes are wild paraphrases - I couldn't stand to sit through it again. But yes, major sexism alert.)

tigermoll · 03/07/2014 17:16

Leaving issues of humour/quality aside (which the OP wasn't asking) I think it is sexist. It seems to have a very shallow idea of what 'being a woman' is - basically just being a doll with a high pitched voice. It's not really making any points or being at all satirical. It seems to think 'being a woman' is dull and inherently ridiculous.

Put it into another context - if it were poking fun at another marginalised group (let's say the song was called 'if I were an immigrant') and displayed a lot of dolls doing stereotypical activities with exaggerated characteristics of that group, would we even be debating whether it was ok?

SolomanDaisy · 03/07/2014 17:26

Oh dear, I just feel embarrassed for him.
