It is my little brother's birthday tomorrow (to clarify, he is in his mid-30s, not that little!). I got him a gift set of three mini bottles of whiskey.

Wrapped it and went to the PO today only to be told I can't post it. I can post a litre of booze, in one bottle (this is 3 x 50 ml). I can post two bottles of booze. But not three.

AIBU to be OUTRAGED by this nonsense?

(Nice PO woman said I could post anyway, but if scanned and discovered, it could be destroyed.)

Put it in 2 parcels?

iklboo · 02/07/2014 19:47

Are you posting overseas?

OwlCapone · 02/07/2014 19:48

Post two, drink one.
Job done.

cakeymccakington · 02/07/2014 19:49

tell them it's perfume

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 02/07/2014 19:50

Not overseas unless you count Scotland as forrin!

PO lady suggested drinking one but it's a boxed gift set, so he might notice. Think I'll post via Hermes.

So you couldn't post a gift set of cleanser, toner, moisturiser in case they were scanned?

If you could, I might be tempted to say that your gift was cosmetics for the chap who craves a ruddy complexion

HappyAgainOneDay · 02/07/2014 21:06

cakeymccakington No, perfume also counts as alcohol. I always lie when I post anything. It might be for the same reason that we have to show that we have only 100ml of liquid when flying somewhere. I always think of something that the item I'm posting could be something that is allowed.

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 02/07/2014 21:07

But I can post a litre in a single bottle!

Wouldn't use hermes for Scotland, they are truly truly shit up here. How strange, cant post 3 bottles of whiskey into Scotland.

SarahAndFuck · 02/07/2014 21:24

Go to a different post office and tell them it's two x 75ml bottles.

starburst1979 · 02/07/2014 21:28

I work in a po and am pretty sure that would be OK to post. I'll check tomorrow for you if you want?

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 02/07/2014 21:33

It's Scotch whiskey too! :D

Thanks starburst, she looked it up in a book of stuff you can't post and printed out the reason for me (will endanger postie etc).

Also have realised I have Dnephew's present to post too, so might as well send together.

starburst1979 · 02/07/2014 21:35

Actually I stand corrected, it's a Max of two. You can just post it and hope for the best but I wouldn't recommend it.

Try Hermes or look at parcel force guidelines x

starburst1979 · 02/07/2014 21:37

Hmm parcel

pinkdelight · 02/07/2014 21:38

Hang on, 50ml x 3 is only 150ml. A litre is a thousand ml. Or have I gone mad?

starburst1979 · 02/07/2014 21:38

Try again...parcel force dont seem to have the 2 bottle rule. I'll double check tomorrow but if you ask to send it parcel force it may be possible.

pinkdelight · 02/07/2014 21:39

So it's not the amount it's the number of bottles?? Bizarre!

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 02/07/2014 21:54

Completely bizarre!

Thanks starburst, tbh I don't really want to give Royal Mail my custom now!

Hay normal for post office. You pay extra re items and get told it was down to your packing not during the posting hence why we don't post now. Not like the good old days. Be glad postman not enjoying your pressie. Can you hold onto it till you next see him or send another way...

londonrach · 02/07/2014 22:00
