To have an upper ear piercing?

Even though I work in a stuffy workplace and have a responsible job?!

Somehow (after a stressful day) I've found myself sitting in a Claires piercing chair! Shock

Also, going on holiday tomorrow. Will swimming be OK?

Talk about reliving youth!

You are unreasonable to have it done in Claire's - it should be done by a proper piercer with a needle, not a teenager with a piercing gun!

DomesticSlobbess · 01/07/2014 18:20

I agree with Chuck. If it's not too late then get out the chair and go to a proper piercer and have it done with a needle.

Other than that YANBU. I'm always getting pierced/tattooed on a whim.

Gryffindor · 01/07/2014 18:26

Oh shit, too late....

Not a great idea just before a holiday, and probably avoid the swimming. Shouldn't have cartiledge pierced with a gun, only a needle. Probably already done the deed now though....

susiedaisy · 01/07/2014 18:27

I had an upper ear piercing done on a whim at my local beauty salon when I had my nails done. I loved it but unfortunately 8 months later it was still very sore and keep swelling up every night when I slept, so I took it outHmm.

Cocolepew · 01/07/2014 18:30

Dd had it done at Claires on sunday with no problems.
Ive had one for over 20 years and it has never healed over even though I dont wear an earring anymore.

HoneyBooBooChild · 01/07/2014 18:33

I had it done at Claire's. Never healed properly, was incredibly painful and red and I ended up having to take it out. I am left with shattered cartilage because they used a gun. I wouldn't have done it before you go away either, might be fine but could also turn nasty..

googoodolly · 01/07/2014 18:34

Next time, go to a tatoo parlour and get it done properly with a needle.

I have six upper ear piercings and getting my seventh done soon and I would never get it done with a gun!

Gryffindor · 01/07/2014 18:35

Beginning to regret my moment of carefree excitement! It looks sweet though, small gold diamante stud.

I had one 4 months ago, still not healed, painful to sleep on every night.
Mine was getting better, then went away in hot sun for 2 weeks, and has been worse since.
I don't think it matters what job u are in, completely acceptable these days.

butterfliesinmytummy · 01/07/2014 18:38

I have one, it was done by needle about 20 years ago, love it. As long as you keep it clean you should be ok. I remember mine was sore for ages after though and the guy who did it warned me that the cartilage would try to repair itself, that's why it's sore.

ravenAK · 01/07/2014 18:40

YABU to have it done at Claire's. They practise on teddy bears y'know.

Glad it looks nice, but next time FFS go somewhere decent! Grin

LynetteScavo · 01/07/2014 18:42

YABU to have gone to Clarie's.

Gryffindor · 01/07/2014 18:47

I had one years ago as a student, but got bored and then when I had to take it out for an operation just never put it back in. That was at Claires and it has completely healed up - to the point where the girl who just did this one couldn't even find a scar.

Luckily pain free at the moment, but I seem to remember that the last one didn't completely heal, I had it in for about a year.

googoodolly · 01/07/2014 18:49

Well, it's done now!

Don't use the Claire's aftercare solution though - salt water soaks are the best thing to heal piercings and don't touch it at all unless you're cleaning it.

Cotton pads and a salt water solution twice a day for at least three months is the best way to treat it. Make sure you wash your hands before you touch it everytime and it should be fine :)

Gryffindor · 01/07/2014 18:50

Thank you googoo!

I've got 9 upper ear piercings, they have all been fine and healed nicely, I sleep in mine and take them out to swap over for different studs and clean them up every couple of days. had all mine done with a gun, although I now know a needle would of been betterBlush some of mine have been in 15 years.
look after it carefully and with luck it will be fine.

Charlieboo30 · 01/07/2014 18:55

I had the top of my ear pierced many years ago (not at Claire's) and it never healed properly. Really hurt and was all red. Had to ask my mum to take it out in the end. Never again...

Even for my ear lobes pierced, Claire's never appealed. I really don't think young girls, in pain, should really be their window display.

Smelsa · 01/07/2014 18:57

I had the top part done with a gun. Grew a nice lump and still puckers where it closed weird.

But I think my body hates piercings anyway.

googoodolly · 01/07/2014 18:59

No worries, I've done that with all of mine and I've never had an infection. Cammomile teabags are also good if it gets inflamed and red - hope it all heals ok! :)

WeirdCatLady · 01/07/2014 19:02

I had mine gunned 24 (oh god I'm sooo old) years ago. It hurt like hell for months but I'm stubborn and persevered and since then it's been fine. I still think it is fab.

Keep it clean and rotate the stud every now and then (with clean fingers). My hair used to get wrapped around it and mix in with the gunk and needed to be cut off (bluergh). Still worth it!

Cocolepew · 01/07/2014 19:59

I have 4 piercing in each ear the first one done when I was 10 (I'm 21- 45 now) all done with guns and I've never had any problems.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 01/07/2014 20:05

Mine was done 20 odd years ago, with a gun. The studs (assume for lobes Blush) came in a pack of two (individually sealed I hasten to add) - mate had her nose done and I had the leftover one in the top of ear! We were so classy ha ha! Had lobes done 4 times, this was easily the most painless and infection free. Just have a small loop in it now, which I never take out.

GoldenGytha · 01/07/2014 20:09

I quite fancy getting an upper sear piercing too, and I will most definitely be going to Claire's!

I had my ears pierced 34 years ago, so before Claire's, but both my DDs have had theirs done there, with a gun and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever, all of their friends have had theirs done there as well, and none of them have ever had any problems either.

I only see this hatred of Claire's on Mumsnet, everyone I know in RL is fine with them.

GoldenGytha · 01/07/2014 20:26

Upper ear, not sear, why does auto correct think it knows better than me!
