To tell my neighbour I would kick him

If I saw him kick my cat. She was just peeing in his pretentious little walled garden on his drive. What a complete arsehole. But that is not where I would kick him SmileAngry rant over.

You can't stop them. But it's still annoying. I tend to shake my fist at neighbourhood cat when he comes into my garden to do his business. He looks at me as if he is smiling and laughing inside. The battle continues but I know I will not win.

Yes, but he's not really laughing at you, is he Finola? He's just wearing his "cat having a dump" face, which, being a cat not a human, he has no control over.

SirChenjin · 01/07/2014 17:51

Hedgehogs, squirrels, foxes and rats are not domestic pets though, are they?

Given the numerous other kinds of pets you could choose, why choose a pet that you chuck outside to crap and pee in other people's gardens, annoy other people's pets, and dismember wildlife? No wonder so many people don't feel the feline love.

Finola1step · 01/07/2014 17:55

Oh no Harriet he's laughing at me, of this I am sure.

It's the same look my old cat used to give me just before scratching the sofa. Or a bit like a cheeky toddler about to do something they know they really shouldn't. Grin

TillyTellTale · 01/07/2014 18:01

SirChenjin

Because I want the goddess Bast to protect and reward me for my love of cats. Wink

SirChenjin · 01/07/2014 18:10

Too bad - because the Goddess FelineSarebLoodypEsts takes away any protection and rewards that the lower Goddess Bast bestows, and gives them instead to those whose pets don't shit and poo in other people's gardens, or terrorise other pets Wink

edamsavestheday · 01/07/2014 18:14

People who get angry about cats being cats - and weirdly focus on cat pee and poo and not the urine and faeces of every other creature that visits their garden - are just working themselves up for no reason. There is no point. Cats is cats. You can't change them. Any more than you can change mice or birds.

TillyTellTale · 01/07/2014 18:14

Nah, haven't seen that happening. Would you like to help polish my Bast statuette collection?

alwayssleepy · 01/07/2014 18:22

Perhaps you should let him know that cat's are now protected by law, and if you spot him kicking your cat you will film the incident, and pass the evidence on to the RSPCA?

Under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 it is a criminal offence to cruelly beat, kick, ill-treat, torture, infuriate or terrify any animal. It is also a criminal offence under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to administer poison, injurious drugs or substances to an animal. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2005 it is a criminal offence to allow an animal protected by the act to suffer unnecessarily. Cats are protected by the Act.

Normally quoting a bit of law at people threatening to injure a cat seems to do the trick, some still think that the laws protecting domestic animals don't apply to cats (which they didn't do in the past).

Cruelty to a cat can now land you a custodial sentence in some cases.

sleepsforwimps2010 · 01/07/2014 18:24

he was wrong to threaten the cat.
However I think cat owners are selfish people, you want a cat and 'it's cruel to keep them in' so they are let out and the owner has no responsibility for them...

How can you love an animal then put it outside to play in traffic! (putting people at risk of car accidents trying to avoid them when they dart across the road)

Plus they don't shit in your garden where your kids play you don't give a second thought where they are crapping.
'they bury it so it's ok' really! how about I collect all my dogs crap and bury it in your flower beds or in the gravel on your driveway so it can get in your kids shoes?
still fine?
Your neighbour is sick of your pet crapping and your feckless 'nothing I can do' attitude. hope that helps

Patrickstarisabadbellend · 01/07/2014 18:25

I caught my neighbours cat mauling my rabbit. I tried to pull it off but in the end I kicked it off. I just didn't know what else to do.
My rabbit had to be put down because if her injuries.

I hate cats.

dingit · 01/07/2014 18:32

Sleeps for wimps. Go and do one dear. Hope that helps.

I'm confused about your cat getting run over? Surely if that's a risk your cat wouldn't be outside to avoid getting squished?

When my neighbours cats decided my front garden was officially their shit haven she came round with one of those cat repellant thingies she'd purchased just for us to try. But that's because she's not a cunt and neither am I.

TillyTellTale · 01/07/2014 18:41

Why do people say cats don't use their owners' gardens?

This is not my experience!

maninawomansworld · 01/07/2014 18:44

Threats to harm either people or cats are pretty unreasonable but I can see where he's coming from.

As a dog owner, if I allowed my dogs to trespass on other people's gardens and do their business I would expect to be prosecuted and I believe the standard penalty is a £1000 fine.... so will someone please tell me WHY it is okay for cat owners to allow their pets to do this?

Before people bleat on 'what am I supposed to do about it?' I will give you the answer.
If you are unable to train a cat not to roam the neighbourhood at will then you fence in your garden with 10 foot high smooth sided fence which a cat cannot jump. You then ensure that all garden furniture / hedges etc are far enough away from said fence to prevent using them as launch pads from which to scale the fence. Job done - cat cannot get out.
Yes it is impractical but to those who say they simply cannot keep their cats in, I simply say no. You have deemed that the measures necessary to keep your cats confined are too much trouble to be bothered with and as it seems to be socially acceptable (and legal) to allow you pets to defecate in other people's gardens then you choose to allow them to continue.

You're no better than the dog owners who don't pick up poo in the park.

Smelsa · 01/07/2014 18:50

You both sound very mature. I like it! Maybe he will just BB gun it instead.

TSSDNCOP · 01/07/2014 18:56

I have two cats.

I am fairly certain they use other peoples gardens, even though they're super lazy and also shit in their own.

BUT

I would be mortified if I actually saw one of them doing their business in the neighbours garden whilst said neighbour was there too.

I completely understand people that don't like cats going batshit about their habits. Your neighbour was being a bit gobby, but he'd probably had a guffull and was letting off steam.

Given the cat was caught red-pawed the smart thing would have been to apologise and offer to buy a water squirter to deter the cat from that particular garden.

ClariceBeanthatsme · 01/07/2014 19:01

YABU you really do need to have a quiet word with your cat and let him know where he can and cannot go.
It's just not on letting him go where he wants all the time.

Oh wait its a cat HE WON'T CARE IT'S WHAT CATS DO!!

SirChenjin · 01/07/2014 19:13

You may not have seen it happening Tilly - but that's because you're blinded by cat hair. It happens all the time, it's great to finally see you cat lovers bested. Get your moggie to help you polish your statuettes - put it to good use for a change.

AND YES - WE GET "THAT'S WHAT CATS DO". THAT'S BECAUSE SOME HUMANS CHOOSE TO KEEP THEM AS PETS, AND THEN CHUCK THEM OUTSIDE BECAUSE IT'S EASIER THAN GETTING A PET THAT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR.

TillyTellTale · 01/07/2014 19:16

I'll have you know that my vision is great with glasses, and I clean them every day. SirChenjin.

I have never ever chucked a cat outside, and nor has anyone I would call friend. We fit our houses with deluxe catflaps, so the cat can enter and exit at will.

SirChenjin · 01/07/2014 19:23

In which case you need to look at your surroundings more carefully, because you and your goddess are being defeated daily by superior pet owners.

Your cat flap doesn't prevent the absolving of responsibility though, does it. Once a cat leaves your home (whether it's chucked out or leaves through it's deluxe cat flap) you have absolutely no idea what it's up to. It's the only kind of pet ownership which allows the owner this lack of responsibility - so you take the rough with the smooth, I'm afraid.

SirChenjin · 01/07/2014 19:24

its deluxe

TillyTellTale · 01/07/2014 19:38

Given that the rough is medicating cats, I think it's a fair deal, eh?

SirChenjin · 01/07/2014 19:41

Medicating a pet who doesn't want to be medicated? That's not rough, that's just pet ownership.
