I currently live with my 4yr old son in Hoylake on the Wirral, he's due to start an excellent catholic, high achieving school in September and we live right on the beach, where the Golf Open is hosted, there are lots of lovely trendy bars and restaurants, lots of stuff for families and couples to do with boutiques and cafes, we are very lucky! However my husband has been working in Ashford, Kent, commuting home every weekend to see us, he's now passed his probationary period and wants me to find an area we would all like to rent in, as much as we like our existing town. Im looking for somewhere similar to where we are now, will compromise on the beach, that's not as important, but life, bars, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, good schools are! As well as good transport links to London, for work opportunities for me! My DH a couple of mths ago put a deposit down on a rental in RHY which is lovely but I could not see myself living there it's far too remote, and quiet. I LOVE Tunbridge Wells but it's a bit too far for my husband to travel, I know there are apparently nice towns around ashford, can any one suggest any that may be a bit like what I'm looking for??

I live near Tenterden in Kent - it's a lovely place with good schools, good community spirit. It is much much smaller than TWells though. Has some nice resturants, great pubs, lovely individual shops. It's about 12 miles from Ashford. They have a 3 day music festival in the town every year, called Tentertainment - it's on this weekend. There is a good junior footy club for kids - tenterden tigers - and a leisure centre. Feel free to pm me if you want more info!

.....and the beach is only a 30 min drive. I commute to London in one hour via high speed link from Ashford.

Canterbury itself?

There are also some lovely villages around Sittingbourne and Faversham

Oops- until a couple of years ago and moved from there to the The Wirral! I loved living where we did and haven't liked the Wirral at all so I would say it will be a good move! There are some really nice villages outside Canterbury - Westbere is nice although shockingly expensive compared to up here. Cheaper is anywhere in Thanet not as nice but sine areas like Broadstairs are pretty nice.

Itsjustmeagain??? Where about's on the Wirral are you living? The peninsular has some LOVELY area's I feel blessed living here, but like any area in the UK there are good and bad parts too, I'm sure I could convert you to loving the Wirral thanks for your suggested areas I've written them down and I'm getting on rightmove! :) xx

Ashford is a pretty horrible town, but it does have good commuter links to London. Tenterden is nice but then you make it a long commute.

Have a look at Sandgate (Folkestone)?
