news.sky.com/story/1291405/teen-gang-raped-after-walking-through-woods

I'm horrified, this poor teenager, how can a group of men gang rape like this? There's always been a risk of some lone weirdo attacking women, but gangs of men who find it acceptable to rape women? I'm worried for my daughter if there are groups of men with this attitude.

Gang rape is neither new, or exclusively committed by Asian men. HTH

CoffeeTea103 · 29/06/2014 09:27

Are you just hearing of gang rape only now??

MeMyselfAnd1 · 29/06/2014 09:30

Good grief, it is not only the Asians, in every racial group there are people who are capable of atrocities, including YOURS.

But in EVERY Racial group, the great majority of people are lovely, nice to each other, etc. Focus in the positive, otherwise you won't be able to leave the house in the mornings.

Eebahgum · 29/06/2014 09:30

Did this happen near to where you live? Is your concern that the same group may attack again or that other groups may do the same.

ParsingFlatly · 29/06/2014 09:30

And you joined MN just to post that. Uh-huh.

Ronmione · 29/06/2014 09:31

It's awful, do you live near slough?

GobblersKnob · 29/06/2014 09:33

Where have you been? There has always been gang rape.

And yes, most people are lovely, you cannot live your life in fear.

This!

If you spent all your energy worrying about the atrocious things that happen throughout the world, OP, you'd never go outside!

NotYouNaanBread · 29/06/2014 09:38

You live in Slough, then, and have cause for concern about your daughter? Or is this just a "OMG terrible Asian men" post?

What happened sounds like it was borderline grooming + rape rather than straightforward dragging a passerby off a street and raping her - she met her attacker outside an off-license and he went in to alcohol for her, then voluntarily walked to a woodland with him, where the other men, his accomplices, appeared and they all raped her. I think it has more in common with the Oxford grooming cases than a random assault. They're not saying she had no idea who any of the men are and no teenager in her right mind would walk voluntarily into a woodland with a strange man, so it seems like she might have had reason to think she was safe (i.e. she knew him).

TheSameBoat · 29/06/2014 09:44

The only benefit from it being a group of Asian men is that more people will be outraged as they will be able to point the blame at Asian culture rather than rape culture in general.

poppytripll · 29/06/2014 10:05

Yes I do live near slough. The article states it was an Asian gang, not sure why people are more outraged that it says this than the poor teenager who was raped Hmm

Because you mentioned RACE, OP. And that WILL be jumped upon by a lot of MNers.

The fact that it WAS an Asian gang will just slide by some people.

Mim78 · 29/06/2014 10:30

Sounds horrible, so yanbu to feel upset by it. However is not about Asians, although perhaps this wasn't meant to be significant in title.

IonaMumsnet · 29/06/2014 10:34

Hi all. We've edited the title of this thread to take out the ethnic origin of the men the police are searching for. If people want to read the description the police have issued it's there in the article the OP has helpfully linked to. We felt having it in the title probably isn't relevant to the question as to whether she is unreasonable to feel unsafe and may cause offence.
Our thoughts are with this girl and her family.

Wooodpecker · 29/06/2014 10:34

eh? Has the title been changed or am I going mad? I don't see mention of the men being Asian in the OP.

YANBU to be worries if this happened near you but TBH it happens everywhere. You just don't always get to hear about it.

Wooodpecker · 29/06/2014 10:35

Doh! Just seen MN HQ post.

Poor girl. What a horrid thing to happen. Thankfully it is rare.

yellowdinosauragain · 29/06/2014 10:38

Am I missing something? Neither the thread title, or the op mention race. Has it been edited?

Neither does the title of the article linked to. It does mention they are all Asian men in the text but then this is a description of the perpetrators and if they were Caucasian this would have been also mentioned.

Unless this has been edited this is being turned into a race issue when it isn't one

yellowdinosauragain · 29/06/2014 10:38

Cross posted with mn message. But then it did take a while for that to appear and it seems I'm not the only one!

andsmile · 29/06/2014 10:47

We'll it is a fact that the last two attempted child abductions and a one previously a couple of years ago Asian was used to describe the perpetrators. I live in an area highly populated by Asians so there is a high probability that some crimes will be committed by Asians. but I'm not that fucking stupid to think that all crimes are committed by Asian men. I tend to take notice of police warnings though.

If they were Asian they were Asian.

IonaMumsnet · 29/06/2014 10:56

Apologies, brain to computer to Big Wide World links a little slow this morning. The title did take a minute to sort completely, you weren't imagining it. Someone get me another coffee, quick.
