I find the woman totally objectionable and to see her last night, courting publicity again, just brought the whole ghastly hacking episode back to life.

When do these irritating people get it? We don't like them, go home to your Cotswold mansion and your London home. Get lost and don't expect any sympathy. You're lucky to be free.

Argh.

It's normal to give a public statement after a trial like this. Public money was used to fund the police enquiry (three years in total, plus 42,000 pages of evidence and seven months of hearings) so although you may not want to hear what Brooks has to say, there are other people (whose taxes have been used to fund the case against her) who might.

If she irritates you because she's rich and has a 'Cotswolds mansion', which is what your last paragraph suggests, then yes, YABU.

The ladylike trembling was a bit yawnsome.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/06/2014 15:37

I find that she was convicted of nothing, not even one of the minor charges quite astounding.

Not least because this means that Coulson must be really very intelligent to have pulled it all off on his own for so long Hmm

Tanith · 27/06/2014 15:43

More normal to give the statement right after the trial, though. I wonder why she waited so long.

limitedperiodonly · 27/06/2014 15:46

This explained a lot to me Alis.

It's long and thorough but it's worth it.

limited thanks for the link, I shall read it!

minttea - If you think that getting rich on the backs of shoddy journalism is acceptable YABU. I don't care what the protocol is - all she wanted to do was to support her "colleagues" - and no mention to the hundreds of people that were chewed and spat out.

Mansions are a pain to run, we have one in the family - so I am not jealous or envious.

Sorry but protocol does matter, however emotional you want to get about it. And I'm not surprised she said she wanted to support colleagues - she'd have prejudiced the case against them (still ongoing) had she said anything more. Like an idiot Cameron did make more detailed statement and was rightly rebuked by the judge:

Since you're so interested in the case I'm surprised you hadn't picked up on this.

Re the 'hundreds of people that were chewed and spat out' - do you mean by Brooks personally, or by the profession? She's been found not guilty, but it sounds like you'd have preferred her to self-immolate on the altar of righteousness and take one for the team.
Doesn't look like anyone else is much interested in this discussion so I'm out! Hope you manage to contain your anger and find something more productive to do with your time.
