Am sat on aircraft that should have taken off at 7.40am . Our 'slot' is at 10.30am apparently. Have not slept for 24 hours

Anyone else flying across Europe today? Good luck

When are you flying? We are supposed to be flying to Nice on Sunday. It's been booked for months and we've been looking forward to it so much.

AtAmber · 24/06/2014 08:24

I've just seen your second post. I hope you get off ok.

TheBogQueen · 24/06/2014 08:25

The strike is six days so you may just miss it

This happens every year - maybe the airlines should start planning their routes to miss France (pretty difficult I should imagine if they're going from the UK though!)

Hope you get off before too long BogQueen - and that you have a great holiday when you get there!

diddl · 24/06/2014 08:27

Are you Ryanair by chance?

Sitting on a plane for three hrs-are they the only ones that do this?

TheBogQueen · 24/06/2014 08:30

We are jet2 (same difference ) but apparently all the airlines are doing this so they can grab any slots that suddenly show up. They are being good though - doors open, air con on, free water

Yes pilot said this happens every year Grin sounded weary, I don't think he's going to get home fur a very long time.

OP posts:
diddl · 24/06/2014 08:33

If they know it's three hrs, you'd think that they'd let you off again.

But I think that they don't on the pretence that they need to be ready if something sooner pops up!!

When I had it it was supposed to have been a 7am flight from an airport that was one and a half hrs drive away.

So at least I just slept!

WhatWouldCaitlinDo · 24/06/2014 08:38

I am also sitting on a plane, waiting, with a toddler. We were supposed to leave at 8 and were told 3 hr delay. Aaaagh.

TheBogQueen · 24/06/2014 08:48

Caitlin - our slot has been moved back to
9.40 - hopefully yours will move back too!

I have a five year old asleep on my lap and the other two are listening to stories. All quiet so far bit there's time fur them to start whining

No such luck. Moves from 11am to 12.45!! AND Easyjet's flight tracker says we have departed. I love being kept in the dark.

Tentedjuno · 24/06/2014 11:02

You know that legal requirement that if your flight is delayed for a certain amount of time they have you feed you? Does this apply if you are stuck in the plane rather than at the airport? I am thinking about the so-called food and drinks you have to pay for on the cheapo airlines, the cost of which would tot up for a family.
Probably though there is a let out for industrial action.

WhatWouldCaitlinDo · 24/06/2014 11:05

They are bringing around snacks. DC juT pulled my top down and flashed my boobs at the man in front. Nice.

redexpat · 24/06/2014 11:13

Ahh bof.

TheBogQueen · 24/06/2014 18:49

Well we got there. It's lovely. Also had the, by now, traditional row with Spanish car hire company over mind boggling insurance costs.

Hope you got there Caitlin

This reminds me of that air traffic controller's after dinner speech which I think you can still find on YouTube. At one point he talks about the time he was on duty dealing with planes travelling to France. Normal practice was for a plane heading in that direction to be handled by a succession of ATCs as it went across their radar screens, and then handed over to France when it reached the coastline. He was the last in the line, but when he came to hand over a plane to France, the French ATC said calmly "I speet on your plens" and refused to take it. Cue mass panic, turned out they'd suddenly gone on strike without telling anyone.

So maybe you're better off on the ground.

WhatWouldCaitlinDo · 30/06/2014 13:09

We got here in the end! Weeks hols nearly over now - please tell me the strike is too!
