To wonder where all the interesting boys shoes are?

I went shoe shopping with DS today, I wanted some summer shoes for him. The selection in Schuh, Clark's, Russell and Bromley and John Lewis was shocking. I even glanced in the sketchers store briefly, nope all the same.

The girls shoes are all bright and cheerful with loads of different patterns and colours. The boys shoes seem to come in dull, beige, brown or some print variation on spiders or camo.

Are boys not allowed bright shoes?

I have a boy and a girl. Boy's shoes are much funner unless you love pink and glitter and have little intention of doing much moving about in them.

If you are a minature ruffian, who hates pink, glitter, fairies and idolises your older brother, climbs trees, jumps in puddles and just happens to a girl, then this could be a problem. DD is currently in 2 pairs of Clark's boys shoes -

These, but the lighter blue its are green on hers

and These in red. DS has them in green and DD and DS had them in pink and navy last year. I don't love Clark's at all, but these canvas, velcro sneakers are a perrenial favourite.

Happy Little Soles are good too. Independent shoe shops tend to have more unsual brands than chains.

My son has these and they are pretty cool.

However in general I would agree with you. Boys' shoes are booooring.

DS has had three pairs now and they are good quality.

Next often have bright shoes for boys, if you don't mind checking the fit yourself.

Sports Direct. They have all sorts of latest fashion.

We've had a lot of success with M&S in the past too. The Walkmates range for pre-schoolers is v good.

KirjavaTheCat · 23/06/2014 18:47

Nike do lovely bright trainers. DS had these as his first pair of proper shoes!

I like little blue lamb shoes which you can get from toddle and squeak online. V cute designs, leather, flexible...

SaucyJack · 23/06/2014 19:49

The interesting boys' shoes are presumably in the same place as the practical girls' shoes.

My son is in a pair of very soft leather, red (almost pink), with yellow accents Ecco shoes. They're so lovely and quite usual.

I've had a lot of compliments and comments made about them.

I find Ecco quite expensive BUT they really last (much longer than clarks).
