to be horrified that gel dispensers in children's hospital were empty, and soap in loos empty?

Recently attended a very busy children's Hospital outpatient department. On arrival the 2 alcohol gel dispensers on the way in to outpatients were empty. Mentioned it to the receptionist who didn't look too bothered and said she's sort it. An hour later still empty. They shouldn't have been allowed to get empty, surely someone is responsible for checking them or staff should have a collective responsibility to tell someone if they're nearly empty.

Then discovered the only loo, for patients and parents, had no soap!

This is a hospital for serious cases and was an outpatient clinic for very infection-vulnerable children. I'm not allowed to let people into my house without hand gel so why is this ok in hospital? Also I know for a fact the government is spending millions on new technologies to combat hospital-acquired infections, but the basic hygiene isn't even there.

Would I be out of order to write a stiff letter of complaint? Who would be best to contact?

That is dreadful. I'm a mucky pup and let DD play with any old nonsense off the floor and I am shocked. Hand-washing is an absolute for hospital hygiene. YANBU.

That is awful. The Medical Director of the hospital, copied to the chief Exec of the trust perhaps? Definitely worth raising.

Contact the PALS department in the first instance, you'll find their address on the Trust's website.

I too have been in a hospital with no hand soap! The worst is when you have to do a wee sample into a tiny tube whilst pregnant and then have to try and get some loo paper out of those snappy dispensers that only allow you half a sheet if you talk nicely to it.

That is terrible! I am a student nurse and there are gel and soap dispensers everywhere!

They are necessary!

I suppose the only thing is if they were full, they wouldn't be being used... But yes, I'd agree, they shouldn't be empty, or not for more than a few minutes, and if someone reports them empty, that should be for action.
