Recently attended a very busy children's Hospital outpatient department. On arrival the 2 alcohol gel dispensers on the way in to outpatients were empty. Mentioned it to the receptionist who didn't look too bothered and said she's sort it. An hour later still empty. They shouldn't have been allowed to get empty, surely someone is responsible for checking them or staff should have a collective responsibility to tell someone if they're nearly empty.
Then discovered the only loo, for patients and parents, had no soap!
This is a hospital for serious cases and was an outpatient clinic for very infection-vulnerable children. I'm not allowed to let people into my house without hand gel so why is this ok in hospital? Also I know for a fact the government is spending millions on new technologies to combat hospital-acquired infections, but the basic hygiene isn't even there.
Would I be out of order to write a stiff letter of complaint? Who would be best to contact?
