To not want to share my bed with a 50k Labrador?

We have a chocolate lab who I love dearly but whose lifetime ambition seems to be to shed as much fur as he can. I get absolutely sick of it being all over everything, no matter how much hoovering etc I do.
Our landlord stated that he's not allowed upstairs - great for me as it's carpets and I don't have to spend ages trying to get the dog hair up

DH has decided that not only is the dog suddenly going to be sleeping in our bedroom, he's going to be sleeping in our bed.

I do not want to sleep in a bed that is covered in dog hair! The bloody dog loves sleeping in his arm chair downstairs and isn't even supposed to be up here! But DH just keeps letting him into the bed and I keep turfing him out.
I've just been called an 'evil person' for turfing him out of the bed. I know in the morning I'm going to have five verses of 'you don't like the dog' followed by a chorus of 'you do nothing for the dog'.
AIBU to not want him in the bed or even upstairs?

YADNBU but I am fairly untypical on MN in that no dog of mine is getting on any furniture ever. That's what dog beds are for.

QueenofLouisiana · 20/06/2014 06:56

No YANBU. I love my dog, she is a beautiful mutt with a heart of gold and a wag to melt hearts. But she is a dog, she is not allowed on people beds or chairs. As aggressive said, that's what dog beds are for.

WillieWaggledagger · 20/06/2014 06:59

I thought this was about a dog worth £50k!

kinkymouse · 20/06/2014 07:00

YANBU. I love hy dogs but I also see where they put their noses and what they will happily roll in on a walk. I personally don't want to have their crusty bits dropping on my bed or furniture.

Yanbu.

Does your DH want to be evicted?

Does he ever Hoover the dig hair?

Hobby2014 · 20/06/2014 07:01

Me too Willie!

financialwizard · 20/06/2014 07:05

Yanbu.

My bed is for sleeping, not trying to avoid the body mass of a dog. Bad enough sleeping with the snoring husband!

numptieseverywhere · 20/06/2014 07:08

well our little (much smaller than a lab) dog is allowed on the sofa and sleeps with one of the kids, in the bed!

Fenton · 20/06/2014 07:12

YANBU

But if he's really 50kg that's seriously overweight you know.

Rokenswife · 20/06/2014 07:13

Sorry I meant 50kg lol - I typed this in the small hours!
No DH does no housework.
He's so stubborn!

YANBU.

The thought of getting into a bed that is covered in dog hair makes my skin crawl.

My bedroom is my space. And getting into a clean and cosy bed every night is non-negotiable.

And I'm a dog owner. Dogs do not belong on human beds. It's unhygienic.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 20/06/2014 07:16

I don't eat noodles in bed - doesn't mean I don't like Chinese food.

Why doesn't your DH do any housework?

Why does your DH think his opinion on where the dog should sleep is more important than yours?

SunshineAndShadows · 20/06/2014 07:19

Totally not unreasonable. But you may also want to invest in a furminator groomer (life changing and pretty cheap) And if he is 50kg perhaps you DH could show his love by walking the dog more as that's probably a bigger issue.

soundedbetterinmyhead · 20/06/2014 07:20

I would suggest that you're very happy for the dog to sleep in the bed with you as you would not want the dog to think you are mean - however, this means that DH will be curled up on the armchair all night. His choice.

littlewhitebag · 20/06/2014 07:22

50kg? I thought mine was getting porky at 32kg. Time for your lab to go on a diet perhaps?

My lab gets on the bed for a snuggle from time to time but is put firmly into her bed overnight. I can barely sleep with my DH snoring in the bed. The dog would be the final straw.

AuntieStella · 20/06/2014 07:28

Is your DH aware of the landlord's restriction?

Does he have a plan B for where you will live?

Ragwort · 20/06/2014 07:29

I would be looking for a new home (without DH) - the thought that a grown man wants to share a bed with a dog makes me feel sick, surely that is grounds for divorce - Grin.

Velocirapture · 20/06/2014 07:37

Not unreasonable. Our cat managed to take up most of the bed and he was a tenth of the size of a labrador.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 20/06/2014 07:51

YADDDNBU.
Our dogs are not allowed upstairs let alone on the bed and never on the furniture downstairs.
Despite this the fur and mud are a full time job, I shudder to imagine how bad it would be if they had free rein Hmm
Also if your LL has specifically requested that the dog does not go upstairs, the dog should not be upstairs. People like your DH are the reason why so many LLs are unwilling to rent to dog owners

CheshireDing · 20/06/2014 07:55

YANBU. Your bed will end up stinking :(

Also your bed must be huge Grin

MsVestibule · 20/06/2014 07:57

Leaving aside the FACT that sharing a bed with pets is beyond manky, why is your DH insisting on this? From what you've said subsequently, I'm guessing your marriage isn't in the healthiest of states?

gingee · 20/06/2014 07:58

My big hairy git used to sleep on my bed but after a couple of years I really grew to hate the hairs etc. I'm not overly houseproud but it's just a bit gross imo.

MsVestibule · 20/06/2014 08:09

gingee I know what you mean. My DH is pretty hairy too, but I haven't gone so far as to kick him out permanently.

softlysoftly · 20/06/2014 08:16

YANBU and it's totally unfair on your LL too. He's rentedto you on the basis of hard floors dodownstairs I assume? Dog a mell never comes out if carpets meaning your DH is effectively taking the piss out of his good nature and costing him refurbishing money.

softlysoftly · 20/06/2014 08:16

Phone having a bit of a skip issue there!
