Pop to the splasheries my lambs and after you've brushed your hair till it shines we'll have a quick practice of 'I sing of Margaret so fair'.

Once we've finished casting the movie, that is....

OP posts:
DeWee · 07/07/2014 11:49

I think Madame is feeling old. I saw her sobbing and saying "I can't cope with any more birthdays". Shall we go over and cheer her up. Maybe some more singing? Pity we can't take the middles' home brew.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 07/07/2014 12:28

Poor Madame. :( Maybe Joey could have quads to cheer her up!

DeWee · 07/07/2014 13:00

No that would give her more to worry over, because Joey is so obviously delicate. Perhaps if Madame could have the quads herself, after all a larger family is easier? Make her feel young again!

Vintagejazz · 07/07/2014 13:05

Oh nooo DeWee. Poor Joey would be furious very disappointed if she was not the one to surprise the school with quads. You know how attention seeking irrepressible she is.

DeWee · 07/07/2014 13:08

Exactly. Grin

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 07/07/2014 13:37

I bet Margot Maynard would have quads. She's properly wholesale.

Or Bill, for that matter: she'd give birth to quads and then climb a mountain, rescue some irrepressible Middle from a ditch, fix the electricity and deliver the Catholic sermon (or whatever it's called), all in the same day.

DeWee · 07/07/2014 14:11

Yep, Quads while being a nun, that'll really out attention-seek Joey. Grin

JuniperTisane · 07/07/2014 14:12

My mum fell pregnant with twins twice. Also thinking about it, my granny was one of 11 children and she was one of the second twins too. She was born in 1918 so not inconceivable that she crossed paths with EBD at some point over time. Who knows, maybe she among other families were a sort of inspiration to EBD.

I've just got round to reading Exile. How did I never know about the whole missing chapter before? It makes much more sense to keep it in!

I can't actually imagine Bill having any children of her own. She's much more a practical fun aunt.

Vintagejazz · 07/07/2014 14:37

I am trying to locate an unabridged copy of Exile but they cost an absolute fortune. Even the GGB ones are selling for up to £50 on Abe Books.

RobinHumphries · 07/07/2014 15:46

Joan Baker says she has wrong direction tickets (at least I think that is what she said) and she wants me to go with her... Does anyone have any idea what she is talking about?

Vintagejazz · 07/07/2014 15:52

I think it's some kind of a concert Robin. Maybe you will get some ideas for Madame's next birthday. Make sure you wear your velveteen dress and your good white socks. You should probably also wear your blazer as it's a formal cultural event.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 07/07/2014 16:09

Are we still in Tyrol? I think you might need a chaperone if so, girls on the continent grow up more slowly and need chaperoning everywhere, until they turn 17 at which point they grow up more quickly and get engaged. Remember to put on a little makeup so you don't look like Edna, but not so much you look like Joan.

Vintagejazz · 07/07/2014 16:47

Ooh Robin, Maybe you'll find yourself sitting beside a nice doctor at the concert who'll buy you an ice cream at the interval and fall in love with you. Make sure you brush your hair until it shines.

mummytime · 07/07/2014 16:47

Two observations on cars.
First in New School the Head Girl drives one of the school cars home- is this like a Sixth Former driving the school mini-bus.

Secondly in the Swiss books the Doctors all seem to drive around in convertibles - did EBD know what a convertible was? They hardly seem suitable for Switzerland, especially in winter.

It is tricky getting the make up right - somewhere between Edna and Joan.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 07/07/2014 18:53

I'm somewhere between the Tirol, Wales and Switzerland at the moment. Surprised I know where I am really; I should get my synthetic maps out one day. And as for what language we are or should be speaking today?

Am I late for Abendessen? I didn't hear the bell.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 07/07/2014 21:05

Oh, what lovely veal and potatoes for Abendessen!

I can only imagine I don't know what ye olden days convertibles looked like - I have brilliant images of those San doctors driving around the platz in v modern sports cars, trying to impress the sixth formers. I don't think this can be right.

I can't work out a way to C&P this on the iPad, but in Theodora, the bit where Miss Annersley ties back Theodora's hair with a ribbon and a couple of clips? Is this not the verboten ponytail?

I don't think I understand anything about true Chaletian cars or hairstyles.

RueDeWakening · 07/07/2014 21:24

I reckon they'd have all had one of these.

I'm currently in Guernsey, btw (reading Exile). Joey is currently unable to take long walks, is being made to take breakfast in bed, and not to be worried about Nazi spies inflicting themselves on the school. I suspect triplets are imminent, she's been "busy" for some time...

My hair is in a ponytail, does that make me fast? I'm not wearing much make up.

Vintagejazz · 07/07/2014 21:36

Is Robin not back from that concert yet? I'm dying to hear all about it. She is late. Matey will be furious. I expect Joan Baker insisted on doing something really common like buying an ice cream cone and eating it on the street.

RobinHumphries · 07/07/2014 22:00

Wow that concert.... Miss Annersley would not have let me go if she'd known and Plato would have had a heart attack.

First things first, of course I applied my make up properly. A smear of pink lipstick and a light dusting of powder. Joan on the other hand had to hide from Matey. Red lipstick, rouge and kohl eyeliner. I'd never noticed before but her eyelashes were wondrously long and thick. Joan said the were false but I have no idea what she means. How can ones eye lashes be false? Thank you for helping me dress Vintage of course I wore my gloves too. I cannot begin to describe what Joan was wearing.

However it is now long past my bedtime and I am rather sleepy, deafened and perculiarly stimulated all at the same time. I think I need some of mateys milk but as we had to sneak back in I can't very we'll ask for some without her finding out why... I have decided I am not going to marry a doctor but am going to marry Liam.... Sweet dreams!

Summerbreezing · 07/07/2014 22:22

Not going to marry a doctor Shock Shock

But, but.............

JoeyMaynardsghost · 07/07/2014 22:33

You're not going to marry a doctor? But you're a CS girl! Shock It's very nearly the LAW!

I think Joan Baker has a lot to answer for.

SockQueen · 07/07/2014 22:48

Perhaps Liam will turn out to be a long-lost cousin of the Bettanys/Maynards. That might make it all ok.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 08/07/2014 08:50

That makes it OK, then SockQueen I had visions of our Robin rebelling and "marrying out" as it were. Phew!

RobinHumphries · 08/07/2014 09:06

Oh I've learnt some new songs now so please don't ask me to sing the Red Sarafan anymore (starts humming what makes you beautiful)

Vintagejazz · 08/07/2014 10:43

Did Liam have a sister who went to the Chalet School? I think a marriage like that would be quite legal Robin.
