to let 7 y/o follow a juice diet

As per the other thread I'm struggling with my ds and especially for breakfast.

Was following the advice to make sure he gets complex carbs (whole grain cerial), skimmed milk and sugar free squash. Now looking into it more this seams bad old advice, I've gone back to normal juice.

Myself and dh have been following a juice diet for the last few weeks, basically a fresh juice of 5 vegetables and 2 fruit for breakfast and we feel amazing for for it.

D's really doesn't like eating in the morning, would it be OK to just let him have juice only like us?

Seriously people would force a child to eat a breakfast they didn't want ? So so odd. I cannot eat until I've been up for 2-3 hours. It makes me feel sick and was the same as a child. Encourage sure but force ? Odd.

Lesshaste makes a good point, mine are fussy eaters and love a 'feast' as they call it, where things are laid out on the table to choose from. Maybe you could do that at the weekend when there is more time and less pressure.

I also think more power to you if you can make a green smoothie he will actually eat, but again as others have said add some fat and protein - natural yog and cream, nut butter, avocados, coconut oil/milk/cream. Think of it as a balanced meal. I think juice with no protein/fat beside it to balance it out is a bad idea though.

Well that wasa lovley stress free breakfast, we all had the same and what he didn't finish went into a bottle to have on the walk to schools.

He did manage to make it till break time without passing out.

Had cashews then, but don't shoot me they were salted and roasted, one step at a time.

I used to resort to bribery, threats, cajoling, punishment, rewards. Lotsa effort for iffy results.

MN wasn't always obsessed with food quality. Maybe it's everywhere now (I blame Gillian Keith). I thought ppl at work were extreme, but we work in population health research.

DS often skipped breakfast before school age 5-8. Made it to lunchtime fine. Went to school with no breakfast the other day, too (now 10yo). We're both not crazy about breakfast. A lot of the time he'll have banana+orange+an ice cream for breakfast if he'll eat at all. I'd be delighted if he ate the smoothie OP's makes.

and DS's pack lunch is pretty small.

I'm a non breakfast eater until about 10/11am. I was as a child too.
I'd try and go smoothie with yogurt and oats in as there's more protein than just a shake.

Well done op. Sounds like a result. And, definitely better than the frosties that have appeared in our kitchen Hmm.
