To think no jury in the world would convict me?

My neighbours (a few houses down) have a small yappy dog. It's high pitched bark seems to echo around the neighbourhood. I'm sure they never take it out for exercise which is probably part of the issue but that's another story.

They are also clearly fed up with the little bugger and shove it out in the garden at all hours. Last night, it was yapping/howling/screeching at twenty to fucking one in the morning. Angry I'm not a light sleeper but it even woke me up. Usually, they bring the yapper inside by 11.30 pm but this is taking the biscuit.

WIBU to kidnap the dog and rehome it to a family who clearly give a shit about their poor pet?! Sad

And yes, they know....I have told them that I've been home and it barks all fucking day. They seem not to care, just shrug at me. For neighbourly relations, none of us wanted to escalate but it's getting ridiculous and a few of us have agreed it can't go on.

Contact the RSPCA?

fluffymouse · 19/06/2014 09:13

You are assuming they don't care. Are you sure they are not trying to address the behavior? Maybe they don't appreciate you interfering. Dog barking does not equate abused/neglected dog.

KnackeredMuchly · 19/06/2014 09:13

The rspca wont do anything, put in a noise complaint with the council

KnackeredMuchly · 19/06/2014 09:14

Leaving a dog outside distressed at 12.40am is neglect but not 'enough' neglect for action.

MintyChops · 19/06/2014 09:18

People who leave their dog out barking like that won't give a shit about a neighbour coming to complain. Speak to your council and deal with it that way. You have my sympathy, I am a dog lover, have 2 dogs but a neighbour who does the same thing. We are considering trying to get her rehomed and keeping the poor dog. Grin

JoffreyBaratheon · 19/06/2014 09:22

RSPCA don't seem to give a flying feck, in my experience.

Council noise abatement route might be the best way to go. Our new neighbours have been in their house since Sept and still haven't walked their dog once. It's a scraggy thing that howls sometimes and barks if we have the cheek to use our own garden - but I know damn well the RSPCA won't give a toss. Draw it to the council's attention. If you ever see it has escaped though seize your chance and ring the Dog Warden. So many dogs owned by people who don't care about them. Sat here with my spoilt 14 year old dog, who has had a life of being loved very much - I suspect she is in a minority.

Canthisonebeused · 19/06/2014 10:04

I think the RSPCA probably do give a shit but they are so underfunded, under resourses, understaffed and their re homing centres are utterly overwhelmed and bursting at the seams, they have the dilemma of what to do for the best of the animal, rescue an sin all which is getting good enough care into kennels to receive good enough care and ultimately be destroyed.

Canthisonebeused · 19/06/2014 10:05

Rescue and place an animal*

Kerryp · 19/06/2014 10:06

I sympathise entirely, poor dog shouldn't be left outside but yes yabu, it's still theft. 2 wrongs won't make a right in this situation.

TallGiraffe · 19/06/2014 10:09

Our local dog warden was out monitoring noise levels from a barking dog yesterday. Give them a ring.

AnotherOneBitestheDust · 19/06/2014 10:09

fluffy I wasn't 'interfering' and I certainly gave them no advice. I was simply telling them that their dog is disturbing the neighbours late at night and giving them a heads up that their dog is distressed all day too.

I'd want to know if my dog was barking his head off all day while I was gone!

Yanbu at all!

I lived a few doors up from a chip shop while at uni and they had a dog that was kept outside all night, barking for hours on end. 3-5 every morning. The council were useless - when I contacted them I was told that they couldn't send any more letters to the owners as they had contacted them so many times, on behalf of so many people that they would be leaving themselves open to a claim for harassment.

I couldn't take the torture any longer and moved.
