to think McDonald's once per week is ok?

Two of the dc do an activity which doesn't finish until 6.45 on a school night so we usually have McDonald's. This consists of a chicken nugget happy meal and water and is term-time only, as well as being followed by walking our dogs. They eat very healthily the rest of the time with no chocolate/crisps/sweets and so on unless we go to the cinema, which is rare.

One of the dcs is borderline overweight and frommy previous marriage. ExH has said McDonalds should be banned from dcs diet, yet when he takes her for tea he takes her to an all you can eat Chinese or carvery, lets her eat as much as she likes, drink coke and have a big dessert. Aibu to think that's not a better alternative and that McDonald's once per week is ok?

yanbu. BUT the fact she gets 2 fatty treats per week is an issue if you want to manage weight loss TBH

its a tough one to argue with the Ex

I think on it's own as a treat, a McDonald's happy meal a week is perfectly acceptable. Especially if your children have a fairly active lifestyle (aka walking the dog).

However is your ex is giving your shared DC a Chinese, Indian or cavery etc that means two massive meal treats a week and should be looked at. All you can eat Chinese definitely has more calories in than McDonald's if your DC is prone to over eating than they will go up more than once.

I was a fat child and my dad did this, bought me lots of treats behind my mums back after the divorce. You both need to be a united front on this.

Vander don't waste your time sweetie - OP is long gone, someone with nothing better to do is just going around and kickig off zombie threads; this thread was over some 20 months ago.

Nooby Out of curiosity, what IS your objective here?

cranberryx · 17/02/2016 16:48

God I didn't even see that this was a zombie thread

I'll see myself out.

YANBU. My kids are healthy and not overweight, and have McDonald's about 3/4 times a month. As long as they get the good stuff as well then it's fine. People can judge all they like.

CantWaitForWarmWeather · 17/02/2016 16:51

FFS not another one!

decisionsdecisions123 · 17/02/2016 16:54

Do what you have to do. It wont be forever, there are a million other things worse than eating fast food once a week!

228agreenend · 17/02/2016 17:04

If the rest of the week's food is okay, then macdonalds would be fine. Mine used to have chips once a week after an activity and it never worried about it.

It isn't about a once per week McDonald's in itself a that isn't going to make them fat.

What is will cause is for them to have the taste for fat and sugar and hyper real false flavourings so regular good food will not be so good.
Hence the arguement for giving them bitter brassicas in the womb!

Our neighbours have it 3 times a week, (children) as well as tonnes of cola on top, tonnes of bags of crisps and loads of chocolate and then wonder why one of the children is really fat.

LordBrightside · 17/02/2016 17:47

It's perfectly ok. This thread is sure to attract the food fetishists though.

You dug up a zombie thread just to accuse McDonalds of putting JAM into Happy Meals?

What the fuck? It's not like there aren't frequent threads about McD's that smug gits can wank on about "empty calories" and so on, as if chicken from McD's somehow has no nutrients whereas the same chicken at home is magically nutritious......
