To think if you go to the dog beach you should expect dogs

I took my pooch to the beach for the first time today. The beach is huge and split in half, one half is for dogs, and there were many of them. Most dogs were off the lead and playing freely.

A few families were also on the dog beach, but were without a dog. However, a few families were obviously irate with the dogs running and swimming everywhere.

Is it me, but if you sit on the dog half of the beach, you can't get huffy over dogs running around.

One father and daughter were on inflatables in the sea and 3 dogs were running into the sea next to them and the girl was obviously worried and scared of them. The owners called their dogs back and walked up the beach a bit, which was good of them.

Surely though, if you don't want dogs around, bloody well go to the dog free half of the beach!

I love Dogs.

I prefer Dogs on a beach any day than humans

I am very amenable to other dogs. But not when they jump up at me or trash my picnic. Or when they and their owners give other dogs and owners a bad name by their behaviour.

As I have said throughout.

At least dogs don't bring their own music on the beach...

Doggies are lovely. Beaches are lovely.

vindscreenviper · 15/06/2014 21:34

Only on Mumsnet would the No True Scotsman fallacy morph into No True Dog owner.

Hakluyt you have been rumbled Grin

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 15/06/2014 21:34

Ahem.

Smile

Anyway... this is why I never usually post on these threads. You get such extreme opinions about something that hardly ever happens in real life. Confused

In the real world where are all these dogs that randomly jump up at you

Here. You and I should swap houses Evelong - you never see these kind of dogs round your way, I see them regularly when we're out on the various trails throughout the Central Belt.

rideyourbike · 15/06/2014 21:45

You are not being unreasonable! I don't have a dog, so we go to the dog free side of the beach, people are daft aren't they?

Hakluyt · 15/06/2014 22:01

No True Dog Owner would mind a wet Old English Sheepdog galumphing through her picnic........

FisherQueen · 15/06/2014 22:04

Coffee is correct - both doggies and beaches are lovely.

End of thread.

Hakluyt · 15/06/2014 22:10

"You are not being unreasonable! I don't have a dog, so we go to the dog free side of the beach, people are daft aren't they?"

YOU CAN'T DO THAT IF YOU HAVE A DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

coffeeinbed · 15/06/2014 22:13

Well, then enjoy doggies and beach on the dog side.
Join the wild dog side, spread the love!

coffeeinbed · 15/06/2014 22:15

Jump, paddle, frolic, fetch, run, roll and bark!
You will be in good company.

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/06/2014 22:18

Years and years working with the public. The only ones who have never pissed, shit or vomited on establishment floors are the dogs.

Team dog beach :o

SirChenjin · 15/06/2014 22:18

Just don't let your dog bother anyone unless they are happy to be bothered by your mutt and all will be well in the world. Chin chin!! Wine

fanoftheinvisibleman · 15/06/2014 22:42

Hakluyt And it suddenly makes perfect sense why we both realise that not all dogs are fit to be left to their own devices in public places Wink I am actually quite tempted to set mine loose on Camber Sands as a social experiment to show that it is not always on the best interests of all concerned....and see if he can top the last time he was unleashed on a (empty) beach when he pissed off with a puffins head. He'd be more than happy to donate such a find to anyones picnic.

I don't have any problem with obedient dogs with recall being off lead...just the wild ones

Hakluyt · 15/06/2014 22:54

What me? Kill a puffin? How could you!

To think if you go to the dog beach you should expect dogs
fanoftheinvisibleman · 15/06/2014 23:01

Oh we prefer our severed puffin heads festering, rotten and dug up don't worry. He's a FRIENDLY menace Wink

But admit it, you can see the norty tendancies in this face!

mom2twoteens · 16/06/2014 01:45

Giles :-)

Can't get the grin (technophobe)

Most dogs are better behaved than humans.

I've been chased out of a park by a gang of lads because I asked them to stop destroying a bridge recently built by volunteers.
My son was attacked by three lads in a shopping centre. Police knew who they were, not enough evidence though.
I have an uncle who was beaten up and a great uncle who was murdered for asking a group of teens not to swear.

None of my family have ever been attacked by a dog and we spend a lot of time in the park and on walks.

Get some perspective.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/06/2014 06:33

mom

I'm very sorry for what happened to your family Thanks

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/06/2014 06:37

Reading these opinions/stories you'd forget just how many lives out canine companions have saved. And just how many are responsible for previously struggling people gaining their independence.

How many children and elderly who live for those visits from dogs in hospitals and homes.

Dogs help people every day. Have helped keep drugs off the street.

Let's not forget that amongst the horror stories and people who seem to wish they didn't have to share oxygen with such creatures.
