A work van and a craine have just turned up in the street, the driver of the van did a half turn in the road, took a chain off my dads drive way, crashed into a wall, a pavement and cracked the drive doing so and is now parked in front of the drive way. I'm wondering what they going to do next

Please don't believe them when they say they'll replace it. I'd be prepared to bet they'll just deny everything and disappear. Make sure they know you're taking photos, make notes, take details and absolutely make sure the person whose house they are working on knows about it.

The type of person who'd take a chain off someone else's drive and damages their property can't be trusted to do the right thing.

Is it a rented property? If so the landlord needs to know now. You do need to call 101 too, if they mess up the repairs and you haven't reported it you won't have a leg to stand on.

Are thy self employed or do they work for a company?

If self employed then I'd be extra careful and make sure you take photos that include the number plate . If they work for a company then is be onto head office ASAP.

Def call 101 as this will help with any insurance claims. I think the insurers need an incident number .

Agree with everyone else, don't relax and try and be cool about it!

Don't take their word for it that they will fix it.... You will be bottom of their priorities and they are likely to 'forget'

Do you have the phone number of the owners across the road? Why not give them a buzz and explain what's happened - they're the ones who are employing them.
