I get this impression and have no idea why - is this my imagination or is this the case?

Where are you originally from?

I am thoroughly English.

Met my DH in the Mulberry Hotel after leaving the Doune Castle..ring any bells

LoveVintage · 15/06/2014 23:23

God I remember Franz from she I lived in Queens Park. Remember Virginia Galleries too but can't think where it was. Used to love going to the old man's pub at Shawlands Cross opposite DiMaggios but think it got a makeover a few years ago.

ohldoneedtogetagrip · 15/06/2014 23:27

I remember that pub but can't remember the name next to the Malbourough Hotel ...

CoreyTrevorLahey · 15/06/2014 23:33

The pub next to the Malborough (now The Shed) is The Corona! Still there, but been cleaned up a bit Smile ohIdoneedtogetagrip, was the Mulberry hotel on that wee road going from Shawlands to Battlefield, past Queen's Park? There was an Indian restaurant next to it called the Mehfil?

My abiding memories of bars in that area are of being carted around to The Village or the Boswell Hotel on sunny days while my parents enjoyed a bevvy and me and my wee sister ate about 10 packets of peanuts and played snap!

ohldoneedtogetagrip · 15/06/2014 23:36

Yep that's the one. It's where all us fallen angels retreated to after a hhards days work.. Nurses in the Vicky Infirmary. I also had a basement flat in that wee road you were taking about.. Camphill Avenue

ohldoneedtogetagrip · 15/06/2014 23:37

The village was Doune Castle Bothwell Hotel = country Club

LottaMarten · 15/06/2014 23:39

Scottish too

Mrsjayy · 15/06/2014 23:44

I was in Doune today welll drove through

WildThong · 15/06/2014 23:57

I don't suppose many of you are old enough to mind Hasties Farm in Blantyre or Gemini in EK, but I had so much of my misspent underage youth in these establishments. One I was older and so much more sophisticated I graduated to Victorias in Glasgow City centre.

WildThong · 15/06/2014 23:58

Wasn't some unfortunate murdered outside the Mulberry a few years ago?

weegiemum · 16/06/2014 00:12

I'm a bit of a mongrel Scot these days, from Perthshire, Uni in Edinburgh, pgce in Glasgow, taught in fife and Edinburgh, moved to the Outer Hebrides where my children were born and now back in Glasgow!

I've got Gaelic speaking weegie kids and a (Northern) Irish dh who has lived over here longer than he was over there.

Wha's like us?

babyboomersrock · 16/06/2014 00:15

WildThong, I am old enough to remember when Hastie's Farm was a farm. Really.

SquirrelledAway · 16/06/2014 07:09

Drink the NE coast isn't really the arse end of nowhere. Unless you're heading to the Broch?

Sure you'll be fine with a decent road atlas, we do have road signs as well. In English.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/06/2014 11:24

Ok, point taken squirreled. Although i find York Northern so anything higher ...

LoveVintage · 16/06/2014 12:45

The Corona, that's it! Used to feel overreacted if you weren't wearing your slippers. My kind of pub!

LoveVintage · 16/06/2014 12:46

Overdressed I mean!

AmberLav · 16/06/2014 13:09

specialmagiclady · 17/06/2014 20:36

There was a Turret in St. Andrews too. (I remember so well when Turret arrived in Forfar - before that it was just County Fashions...)

PrimalLass · 18/06/2014 14:27

At one point all there was clothes-wise in St Andrews was the Turret, Mackays (I worked there for a summer - shudder), golf shops and woollen mills. Thank goodness there was no Fatface, H&M, New Look etc there when I was in possession of low self confidence and a student loan Shock I was bad enough as it was.

TheScottishPlay · 18/06/2014 17:23

Oh yes County Fashions, I got a pair of stonewashed jeans and black and white check shirt there, thought I was 'Erchie'.
Slightly better than Living Images though.

laracroft2001 · 19/06/2014 20:55

Ah I remember the Edinburgh woolin mill just by the old course. Think I was bought a Pringle jersey from there once Grin

Now Janettta's ice cream shop in St A's...GrinGrinGrin
