to wonder who'd buy a house because of this offer?

There's a new housing development (a range of 2, 3 & 4 bed houses) being built near me. We got a flyer through the door from the builders.

If you buy / reserve one of the houses before England get knocked out of the World Cup, you get a free 42" TV.

I'm not totally sure how much a 42" TV costs these days, but it's got to be significantly less than one of these houses - the starting price for those is 120,000.

I get that a free TV is nice, but given how many other things there are to think about when buying a house (location, price, location, size etc etc), AIBU to think that anyone taking the builders up on this offer would have bought one of these houses anyway?

That's very funny. What a daft offer!

Chattymummyhere · 12/06/2014 15:36

If they said they would knock 20% off the price maybe but my tv is already bigger than that. What a stupid offer.

Eh?

Almost as random as the four free cinema tickets to a children's film if you bought a Chrysler about ten years ago!

Objection · 12/06/2014 16:06

Hmm... I guess it could be the deal maker if someone was already thinking about it.
The world cup link is ridiculous though!

ChickenFajitasAndNachos · 12/06/2014 16:06

It's the sort of offer my DH would fall for. When it was the last world cup he went to the shops for some batteries and came back with a 50inch TV!

ShadowFall · 12/06/2014 20:50

ChickenFajitas - Youve just reminded me about a man I used to work with.

He took his car into the garage at the car dealership for a service. While he was waiting for his car to be ready, the salesmen at the dealership managed to sell him a motorbike. He came into work the next day all "Oh, my wife is a bit cross with me this morning, I accidentally bought a motorbike...."

What a strange offer, could understand something like carpets or curtains.... But a tv

ChickenFajitasAndNachos · 12/06/2014 21:33

ShadowFall your post made me chuckle.

Andrewofgg · 12/06/2014 21:39

Shadowfall me too. I hope it was one hell of a motorbike to be worth the shellacking that "a bit cross" probably meant!

MrsBW · 12/06/2014 22:16

Depends. I reserved a house once, then backed out. Got 100% of deposit I'd put down back.

Was the TV given on sales or reservation?

Some builders like to 'increase the hype' by having lots of reserved plots?
