I went for a scan yesterday and it was confirmed I have very painful gall stones having had no cuppa for 6 hours and little food we stopped at Mcd for a drink n snack....a man was stood outside and approached my DP for money for some food..my DP said he only had a card and later when I asked my DP how much money he showed him in his hand my DP said he said he was 89p short for a meal EVEN THOUGH he clearly had 2 £1 coins in his hand...I myself know what it's like to struggle and at times we still do BUT Aldis was a spit away and even if he wanted a Mcds I'm sure he could have got a drink and small burger for just over £2/£2.50 do you think IABU to say that he should 'cut his cloth accordingly and settled for an alternative to his 'make it large meal?' I thought it was quite cheeky.

I have no idea how much burgers cost so I couldn't possibly say.

Canus · 10/06/2014 21:44

What a thoroughly unpleasant outlook you have.

Eebahgum · 10/06/2014 21:45

Sorry, I find it really hard to figure out what you're asking. Was the man homeless? Are you querying whether the £2 he had was enough for food and drink in McDonald's?

stripeycarpet · 10/06/2014 21:46

He wanted money for heroin or alcohol, not food.

And before the flaming, I was homeless for 3 years, I slept rough, sold the Big Issue, and I speak from true experience Sad

CoffeeTea103 · 10/06/2014 21:47

Mc d's is cheap as is, if he was in a position to have to ask for 89p he must have been so desperate. Yabu to think so meanly.

He may not have wanted it for food. Regardless, so what if Aldi is nearby, maybe he wants something hot, maybe he doesn't have cooking facilities, whatever. It's up to him what he asks for.

stripeycarpet · 10/06/2014 21:50

I've heard it all a thousand times - 20p for the phone, £1 for the bus fare back to Deptford or wherever, 30p for a cup of tea, 50p for a can of dogfood.

Its always for heroin or alcohol.

BrianTheMole · 10/06/2014 21:51

Its not always.

catgirl1976 · 10/06/2014 21:51

You could have bought him a meal on the card.

Seriously you thought "Oh. You should go to Aldi and buy a sack of potatoes and an MN magic chicken"?

salsmum · 10/06/2014 21:56

Canus why have I got a thoroughly unpleasant outlook? The man was not homeless as I could tell what I was asking was AUBU in thinking that he could have bought a sandwich/cheaper burger and a drink with the money he had? IF I could only afford cod and chips I would buy cod and chips not stand outside an restaurant and ask passers by for money to fund a dearer meal. I do not know what his financial situation is...but I do know what ours is and I'm not in a position to donate to any stranger in the street who asks for it. I do donate to charity what I can afford and have recently asked to work as a volunteer at a food bank so not so 'unpleasant' just not in a position to give money to any Tom, Dick or Harry for food or maybe not food who knows?.

OP posts:
salsmum · 10/06/2014 22:00

my first thought was...he should go to Aldi erm...yes I had just finished getting the food for the week from Aldi because that's all WE can afford this week!

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByABear · 10/06/2014 22:01

He asked. You refused.

Why judge?

Jollyphonics · 10/06/2014 22:02

Nothing to do with your question OP but I would avoid McDonalds like the plague if had gallstones. All that fat, you'll be in agony!

x2boys · 10/06/2014 22:04

Years ago when I was a student nurse on a night out in Manchester there were quite a lot of homeless people around many outside McDonalds I bought them a meal if I could no big deal?

coffeetea103 As I've said though he did have over £2 in his hand already because I price watch I know he could have bought a burger and drink for that much already...why ask for more? Confused.

jollyphonics sorry I should have stated that I had a healthy salad and tea.

Famzilla · 10/06/2014 22:06

OP I'd knock the McDonalds on the head if you're suffering with gallstones.

Famzilla · 10/06/2014 22:07

Haha. X post.

CundtBake · 10/06/2014 22:07

OP was this your first time ever coming out of the house?! I don't understand why you're so up in arms about somebody asking for money?!

And how could you tell he wasn't homeless when 'you had no idea of his financial situation'

You know most people in your situation would feel pity, and grateful that they weren't in such a desperate position themselves. Your angry response is bizarre.

'Scam artists' do not wait around outside mcdonalds asking for spare change.

ExitPursuedByABear · 10/06/2014 22:08

Yum. A mcds healthy salad.

LiberalLibertine · 10/06/2014 22:08

Maybe he was fucking starving and wanted a meal.

You didn't want to give him any money

Why start a thread frothing about his 'cheek'?

Hiphopopotamus · 10/06/2014 22:08
