For being in danger of pulling a 'Monica' over this party?

First world problems and all that but... at my suggestion a group of friends and I are planning a surprise birthday party for a friend. I started up a Facebook group so we can discuss ideas easily without her knowing.

I've been thinking about this for ages and have lots of ideas but didn't want to take over so I've been consulting everyone and asking what they would like to contribute.

Now, my thing is cakes. I'm kind of known for it and whilst I don't like to blow my own trumpet too often, this is something I'm actually quite good at (so people have told me, it's not just my opinion). But one person has suggested she have her friend do the cake. Now, this wouldn't have bothered me had I not seen the cakes this friend has done and quite frankly, they're shit.

So, before I go all Monica on my friend and relegate her to ice and cups, I thought I'd open myself up to a bit of perspective AIBU style Wink. And before anyone accuses me of having nothing better to worry about, things are actually pretty shit for me right now but have bizarrely manifested itself as worrying about a surprise party. I don't know, I'm not a therapist Grin.

I too thought you were talking about Monica Lewinsky, wondered what kind of party you were going to!

Have tears streaming down my face from that link Frozen. Those are exactly the types of results I get when I try to do something new and clever!

The hedgehog is particularly terrifying isn't it?

Pleased to hear you have been reinstated Mmm. That cake looks amazing. I am very jealous of all the guests who get to eat it!

Can I admit to being a tad disappointed that she's not going to attempt it and fail hilariously

fuzzpig · 10/06/2014 17:14

I've seen that 'nailed it' page so many times and it still makes me laugh.

MmmCakeMmm · 10/06/2014 17:17

Thanks everyone.

I've got to admit that after all the fuss I was looking forward to going ott with the cupcakes Grin and a teeny part of me is disappointed not to come face to face with a real cake wreck.

I could post her other cakes to my profile for a limited time only? Feels a bit mean though Hmm.

Would be a step too far IMO! But thanks for the offer :o

That Pinterest link has just had me crying with laughter, especially the hedgehog teeth! Not good when 26 weeks pregnant with a crappy pelvic floor!

HayDayQueen · 10/06/2014 17:25

I LOVE that cake!!!

Actually, with all the pre-made icings you can buy I could even decorate a cake vaguely like that.

Can't guarantee what it would taste like, mind!!!

(psst, Op, if you have a delicious chocolate cake recipe I'm all ears! I make mean carrot and lemon drizzle cakes, but my chocolate ones aren't that brilliant....)

wafflyversatile · 10/06/2014 17:47

You could PM some of the pics. Hmm

You'll have to make sure your cake is beyond reproach now!

TheIronGnome · 10/06/2014 18:29

I would like to see some of your and her cakes...

BadgersNadgers · 10/06/2014 20:06

So do I. Put your money where your cakehole is.

brotherhoodofspam · 10/06/2014 20:43

Have just about peed myself looking at the Pinterest link. Thank you so much for that.

PrincessBabyCat · 10/06/2014 20:48

Yes, let's see your cakes.

Don't worry, I'm lucky if mine don't crumble when trying to get them out of the baking pan.

Just want to see.
