to think nhs could save a lot of money if docs did their jobs?

It seems far too common for docs to write something off as a virus or to tell people to 'keep an eye on it's

I had to hold my 2 year old in such a way so as to make him scream today to show the doc that there is a problem. He was determined to fob me off and get rid of me. It's really disheartening!

I'm pretty sure the nhs doctors who have saved my dss' s life on more than one occasion are doing their jobs. Yabu.

Sleepyhoglet · 09/06/2014 22:25

Ouch

MammaTJ · 09/06/2014 22:25

So what did you do, almost squeeze the life out of your DS to make him scream?

If he wasn't screaming until you did this, maybe there is not so much of a problem as you think.

Sleepyhoglet · 09/06/2014 22:26

And very often people do have viruses. Do you have an issue with all doctors or just GPs?

DoJo · 09/06/2014 22:26

YABU to generalise - if you have a problem with a particular GP who you think doesn't take your concerns seriously enough, then complain about them. Extrapolating that into an assumption that every GP is the same is unhelpful and pretty rude to all the excellent GPs out there.

paddyclampo · 09/06/2014 22:27

You can tar all doctors with the same brush based on one experience. YABU.

Sleepyhoglet · 09/06/2014 22:27

Agree with mamma t. Sorry you went in with a demand that wasn't met.

DoJo · 09/06/2014 22:27

And if the issue which you were there for wasn't visible unless your son was in this position/screaming then surely it's understandable that the GP couldn't diagnose it until you showed them the symptoms. Or have I misunderstood.

Sleepyhoglet · 09/06/2014 22:28

Out of interest what do you think is wrong with your dc and what did you want the doc to give you?

Tinkerball · 09/06/2014 22:29

Your title is an awful big leap from your actual post. And you don't exam enough about what happened, not enough details.

financialwizard · 09/06/2014 22:29

Very rarely go tbh. I tend to seek advice from a pharmacist or nurse before I bother the GP unless really bad.

Tinkerball · 09/06/2014 22:30

And you haven't said what you wanted the GP to do.

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 09/06/2014 22:30

Ridiculous thread title and generalisation.

Harry1603 · 09/06/2014 22:31

YABU - you can't tar all doctors with the same brush. I've had more experience with doctors in the last month than in the last 30 odd years and I can't complain about any of them.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/06/2014 22:33

Some GPs do fob off parents. Some parents take their children to the GP with virus's unnecessarily.

YABU to generalise.

Swex · 09/06/2014 22:34

Yabvu

LadyNexus · 09/06/2014 22:37

Sorry....did you actually do something to make your son scream in pain?

Instead of just telling the doctor and trusting his judgement?

What the fuck is wrong with you?!

Sleepyhoglet · 09/06/2014 22:37

So what do you think is wrong with your dc?

watchingthedetectives · 09/06/2014 22:37

This post makes no sense

Plus quite a few conditions do settle by themselves so sometimes 'keeping an eye on it' is the right thing to do!

HelenHen · 09/06/2014 22:40

Lol love the answers! I wanted the doc to check ds to see what is wrong! He's been screaming recently when we lift his bum to change his nappy! He also has tonsillitis! Doc said he seems fine and it's prob the virus and he tried to get rid of me without even looking. So I lay him down and lifted his bum... And poor ds screamed... But me bring unreasonable! So this doc made us an appointment for specialist doc tomorrow.

I didn't want him to give us anything but his 'expertise' thank you.

Yes, what on earth do doctors know, years of gruelling studies, long hours spent on ward rotations & they think they know it all. Do Dr's not know that they should immediately dish out antibiotics because the advice of rest, fluids & paracetamol is just so old fashioned. It's not like super bugs are a reality.

Yabvu, the majority of doctors I have met in the NHS are dedicated, compassionate, hardworking & save lives daily. I owe them my life & I am immensely grateful to live in a country that has the NHS.

bitsnbobs14 · 09/06/2014 22:41

Folk get ill, we have immune systems that are usually quite effective. Stop stressing, unless your child is really ill, letting his/her body do what it needs to I'm order to get well, will do them a favour.

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 22:42

I have issues with how my GP treats my sons asthma, doesn't mean I will generalise and tar all Gps the same though.

And saying something is a virus isn't writing something off, it's just acknowledging that the symptoms at that point suggest it to be viral. Viruses can be as dangerous as bacterial infections with the downside of not having the 'simple' treatment solution.

bungmean · 09/06/2014 22:43

A sore throat is not the same as tonsillitis.
But yes, all us doctors are clueless lazy scum.

newfavouritething · 09/06/2014 22:43

Nope, still think YABU
