to think that Geordie Shore and its ilk are a bad example to young people

They seem to be full of vain shallow people who jump into bed with each other at the drop of hat. None of the blokes seem all that bright and have little in the way of respect for girls, yet get a constant stream of female attention.

Are you watching it?

fishdishwish · 09/06/2014 00:47

From time to time.

I do love watching it I will confess, but yes Geordie Shore and The Valleys probably aren't great examples. I don't find Made In Chelsea or TOWIE as bad.

I'm not sure if they are negatively influencing younger people, I obviously still wouldn't hold them up as a way to act but I watch them with my elder DC and I think they have actually learnt some positive things from those shows. My DD was bemoaning to me the girls on these programmes, how they're so weak and they get treated badly but go back for more, I thick because you get to hear from the 'cheater' or horrible guy/girl you see just how selfish they are and its easy to see that all these types are just the same.

Also the girls are generally just as bad as the guys so at least there is some equality in it all.

I love it, because it makes me laugh and it reminds me greatly of my own younger years, about 20 years. My point being that there's always been this kind of behaviour. It hadn't started with the advent of "reality" shows.

NickiFury · 09/06/2014 01:10

Oh and anyone who's interested, the new series, season 7 starts next week!

ILoveCoreyHaim · 09/06/2014 10:27

I agree I live in Newcastle and it's not a recent thing it's just being filmed. I was a bit like that in my early years and drank in Town 5 nights a week.

I think Made in Chelsea is just as bad. They just don't show them actually in the bedroom is all.

The guys are horrible and talk about the girls like pieces of meat and basically pass them round....but what gets me is the girls let them and just stand there simpering.

Mark Francis is my favourite as his bits break up the relationship drama....he's usually just standing in some shop buying something ridiculously expensive, speaking in one of 5 languages and expressing horror that poor people own sleeping bags. Makes me giggle. Plus he is proper posh innit....mum's a russian princess or summat.

ApocalypseNowt · 09/06/2014 10:32

I watch all of them though. I have a problem.

Hello my name is ApocalypseNowt and I'm addicted to compelling trash on't telly box.

My teens think it's hilarious and in a level with Jeremy Kyle.

It's a freak show and they have been going on in some form for decades.

Most young people are as sensible as most older people. There are daft twats of every generation.

ComposHat · 09/06/2014 10:49

Yes, because young people had no interest in jumping each other's bones before geordie shore.

YABU to think that young people unquestioningly ape everything they see on TV, have no critical awareness or understanding that TV isn't real life. They are in many cases hyper aware that what is represented on the screen isn't reality.

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 09/06/2014 11:02

I honestly can't wait for it to start! it's not really a bad influence, I don't think. It's just a few people having fun with their lives, they're not settled down, they're single and can do what they want. it's hilarious what they come out with!

BendyWendyWooWoo · 09/06/2014 11:06

I like to use these shows as good examples of how NOT to behave.

Apart from that, they're VERY entertaining :D
