...Some of us would like to enjoy the birdsong and do a bit of quiet reading.

Bastards.

Had to go out to get away from the selfish fuckers in the end. We live in a terrace, so not really sure where the music was coming from - possibly five or six doors down...

Glad most people on here seem reasonable. The person who said I should go and live in the middle of the countryside sounds like a bit of a twat IMO.

It's so bloody rude. We never even mow our lawn until the evening and then do it on a week day. Use bloody ear phones for music.

Our neighbour you can guarantee everyone we open a bottle of wine outside and chat to friends at fucking 2 pm on a sat afternoon he mows the lawn. Twat twat twat.

We are extending soon and got permission despite him. Can't wait to see his face when the lorries turn up.

I am contemplating showing my cats pictures of magpies and introducing a reward system for each one caught.

They're not my favourite birds neither Phaedra They are fecking evil, aggresive, murdering little bastards. My cat likes chasing them and does that cat to bird mimic thing to try and entice them - he's not been successful though.

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 19:39

But what's not to like?

Silence is awful

And no, it's not me making all the noise, I'm quite a quiet person by nature and the neighbours regularly come round to apologise for this and that noise. Mostly I've not even noticed it, but 3 different lots of neighbours have tried to apologise, and when I've said I like it they look shocked and say they felt bad because they never hear any noise from us!

coffeeinbed · 08/06/2014 19:41

I dream of someone inventing something to block out other people's music.

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 19:41

who could object to the low hum of a mower while sitting in the garden? It's hardly an offensive noise. We're not talking pneumatic drills!

Bunbaker · 08/06/2014 19:41

"Silence is awful"

No it isn't. Silence is golden. What is wrong with you?

coffeeinbed · 08/06/2014 19:42

Silence is the ultimate luxury.

LadySybilLikesCake · 08/06/2014 19:46

"Silence is awful" That's just your opinion though, and most people don't share it. I wouldn't force my meat eating diet on a vegetarian, so why force someone to listen to your music?

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 19:48

Indeed, but if you had your way i would be forced into silence.

JonesRipley · 08/06/2014 19:49

SE

No, you would be forced to play your music more quietly, or through earphones.

Der

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 19:51

I don't play music except for in the van.

I like to hear the passing noise of 'life'.

Bunbaker · 08/06/2014 19:53

I don't understand people who have to listen to music all the time. Whenever I travel by train or plane I see loads of people with earphones stuck in their ears as if they can't bear to not listen to music ever.

I listen to the radio in the car and at home, but am just as happy not to.

SelectAUserName · 08/06/2014 19:55

YANBU OP.

I get that some people enjoy a bit of music on a sunny day. Fair enough, but not when it's every minute of every sunny day. Live and let live - let the people who prefer natural sounds have their quiet enjoyable leisure time too.

Having lived next to keyboard-playing students; a Jezza Kyle-esque family who lived their lives with the doors and windows open, hip-hop music constantly pounding and every argument conversation a full volume swearfest, and an Elvis fan who played her music so loudly it reverberated through my floorboards every weekend, I think anyone who inflicts loud music on their neighbours all the time is an inconsiderate arse of the first order.

I cannot praise my current neighbours highly enough - two retired couples who enjoy peace, tranquility and birdsong as much as I do Grin

CrohnicallyHungry · 08/06/2014 19:55

thebody I bet your neighbour is thinking "what is it with thebody? Every time I get in from work and want to put my feet up in the garden with a glass of wine and a bit of peace and quiet, she starts mowing the lawn!" Grin

Greydog · 08/06/2014 19:59

"The low hum of a mower" - never heard that - there's a chap near us who has a mower that sounds like we're on an airfield - and the plane never takes off. And I worry about the safety of people who are wired for sound all the time. How can they be aware of their surroundings? Cyclists and joggers in their own little world

HesGotStyleAGrooveyStyle · 08/06/2014 20:12

I don't like listening to other people music either. It's really rude. I don't mind chatting, laughing and kids playing though.

My nieghbours kids have those powered ride on cars....with HORNS Confused I don't mind the noise of the kids or the cars motors but the bloody beeping is really irritating. Beep, beep, bloody BEEP! all bloody day. Sad Angry

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 20:18

There's no way a mower sounds like an airfield!

SelectAUserName · 08/06/2014 20:20

SE would you stop telling people what their own experience is?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 08/06/2014 20:33

If you want birdsong and silence then move out of the suburbs.

Birdsong, yes. Fucking cawing fucking screaming fucking shouting fucking bastard rooks in the trees behind my house, no.

I swear if I had an air gun in the house they'd be dead by now. They are unbelievably noisy and there is nothing we can do about them. And yes, we live in the middle of nowhere.

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 20:35

I'm not, it's nonsense. I have never ever, apart from on here seen people moan about things like mowers. compare the decibels, it's nowhere near, so it's silly to compare the 2. It's about the level of an electric toothbrush when the mower's about 10 foot away.

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 20:37

Rooks?? Natural birds, just doing their cawing thing?

I'm astonished some of you can put up with your own breathing!!

LadySybilLikesCake · 08/06/2014 20:38

You're trying to justify why you piss your neighbours off with your music, while trying to rubbish what other people say Confused If the poster say's the mower's loud, she's saying it's loud.

SEmyarse · 08/06/2014 20:39

I don't play music!! For about the 5th time.

Larimarbleu · 08/06/2014 20:39

Teenagers making a racket with their music is really annoying, but at the same time, the sound of younger children constantly screeching and hollering in the garden can be just as annoying .. Horses for courses.
