Banning the school run

leading on from driving/walking thread, Gove suggests banning driving children to school.

All schools to be double red lined ( not stopping, unloading, pausing at all.)

all roads within half a mile of a school to be resident parking by permit only during school drop off or pick up time.

parents not allowed to park within half a mile of their school.

(Although most roads round here must be within half a mile of a school?)

Lots of fun and games here yesterday. Obviously a pre-planned operation a few minutes before home time.

A fire engine arrived at the bottom of the lane and could not anywhere near the school. Police and community police issued dozens of tickets to cars parked half on the pavements and double parked.

A few parents got arsey but they were parked illegally so they didn't have a leg to stand on. I hope they do this regularly.

Couldn't work - the amount of time I stop by DDs senior school is such that even on a red route I wouldn't get caught, and anyway she often gets out while I am stopped behind a bus trying to get past a parked van.

Also 1/2 mile of DCs primary would include wide sections of the town centre (DCs secondary would include a smaller parade of shops and 2 supermarket) - are these to not allow parking at school drop off/pick up too?

I live very near a football stadium. Match days used to be a nightmare with people parking anywhere and everywhere.

Then traffic wardens were brought in en masse 15 mins or so after kick-off and parking tickets were issued as appropriate - hundreds, I should think.

They now do this every match day - and hardly anyone parks illegally. Problem solved - so why not do this with school runs?

Seriously ladies. The whole thing has been disproved upthread. It wasn't anything that was ever suggested by Gove (spits).
