To ask why people admit they've name changed...

And also why they do it?

Is it because you don't want people to search for and look through previous posts you have written under your long term username?

I don't understand the concept of changing your name to appear to be another member but then admit you aren't who your username says you are. Does it not defeat the purpose?

BTW - I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I'm just genuinely confused Grin

Yes, I have just seen the other thread.

I do apologise Phaedra about my previous post to you the other day - I didn't realise that the "new" Caitlin was being malicious with a similar name to you. In those circumstances, it's understandable that you wanted to point out that you're not the same poster!

TheTerribleBaroness · 12/06/2014 10:32

Bumping so other posters/ lurkers can see what's going on.

Funnyfoot
Just to let people know that Caitlin177 has been utterly vile to a poster who's baby was born sleeping at 34 weeks.

I do not wish for Caitlin17 (now PhaedraIsMyName due to vile poster nicking her name) to be associated with Caitlin177 as they are not the same poster.

Bump.

Caitlin177 has now been banned from MN. The thread is in Site Stuff.

PhaedraIsMyName · 12/06/2014 23:36

Gosh. Thanks FunnyFoot and EasyWhiteChocolate

I never admitted mine. Didn't see the point!

I'm a regular name changer. I do so every 3-6 months. I don't like the idea of a huge trail. I'm in very different place from when I first joined.

I don't think it really matters if people want to change their username (or how often) as long as they aren't doing it to troll people it's really not hurting anyone.

I just changed my name for the first time. I am going through a really difficult experience and I want to come onto Mumsnet so that I can have someone to talk to and get advice from as I don't feel like I can confide in my family or friends. Everyone I work with is on here and I don't feel comfortable with them knowing details about my private life so I am hoping I can now feel confident enough to seek advice without worrying I'll be identified.

Quite often I read threads and I feel really sad that people can be so critical of others that do things differently to them. We all lives our lives differently, but we all know how tough motherhood can be and should be nothing but supportive of each other.

I don't expect this will be a popular view, but there I've said it.
