Casual acquaintance at the weekend was telling me about doing something amazing - and then had to one-up themselves when I commented on it. This is not the real story but along these lines

Her: look at this photo of me skydiving out of an aeroplane
Me; Wow that's amazing. What an experience!
Her: Meh, not really, after all last year I climbed Mount Everest
Me: that's nice.

What do you say to show-offs?

My mum used to say in a really flat voice 'fancy that'.

T'was a real downer.

Oh really? Lovely.

Vague voice "Did you? Hey do you know where my pen is, it's my favourite, the Dalai Lama gave it to me."

eurochick · 04/06/2014 14:33

It would pass right over my head as I have never watched that sh1t.

Well sky diving, plus climbing mount everest, I'd just let them show off a bit. Have you climbed any mountains recently?
Whats wrong with just being nice to people?
and stop watching such godawful tv

ThaneOfScunthorpe · 04/06/2014 14:42

Grockle did no one care when you did your charity skydive? Wink

Mrsjayy · 04/06/2014 14:59

YANBU. Go for it I say. If they don't get the joke then at least they'd be a bit peeved to hear you describe it as 'nice'.
