AIBU?

To ask you if I'm going to survive juicing diet

Day 1 today. Hot water and lemon. Then just juice and water.... For 7 days. Am I going to die/shit myself/ steal food from my one year old?
I know it's a fad. But I've let myself go and I need a kick up my fat arse. Anyone done it and survived and got results?

Are bodies aren't designed to digest fruit and veg as juice, so internally you aren't doing yourself any favours.

I do understand the desire to kick start with a severe diet though.

There's a docu film about this on netflix -can't remember what its called though (helpful)

I fast intermittently (total food fast) for varying periods and always have done.

I went 5 days once, but that was more to do with waiting for my giro.....

After day 1 you feel less hungry.

Its a good weight management tactic for me.

All this 'our bodies aren't designed' stuff..... Well we aren't 'designed' to have sugar/wheat/cows milk either

And look at how humans are as a result!

Juicing hasn't caused the obesity crisis has it!?

I saw 'fat sick and nearly dead'. It was really interesting. I don't think I could stick to it myself.

I agree a lot of things are fads but I am a 'juicer' and it has helped change my way of eating. Some people swear by weight watchers yet that didn't work for me at all. Something people need to be honest how much they really 'tried'.i had a friend that used to common about her weight, dieted all the time - told me how she had dieted all week and not lost weight but then also that she'd had fish and chips and pizza on 2 nights! Shock

I agree with the people saying about the vegetable so try and include them in as many juices as you can. You will be surprised what you can cover up with some lemon juice.

I lost 6lbs in the 7 days and didn't put it back on but I did feel faint on the 3rd day so I had leafy salads for lunches and it still worked.

Apparently it helps not to make them too smooth and to actually 'chew' so your body knows this is it's meal.

Good luck whatever you decide. Smile

Well done for day 2 massage girl Smile
There are lots of blogs by people who've successfully completed juice diets of various lengths and pretty much all of them start feeling better by day 3 and amazing by day 5.

Stick with it! :)

Thanks dilli. Good luck with yours too!

If you look up the diagnostic criteria for bulimia, you'll find it fits quite well with juicing and the egos behind it.

Juicing may not have caused the obesity epidemic, but if you look at the evidence against fructose (which is pretty much all that's left of fruit if you take out the fibre), it's pretty damning.

Fructose is the last thing you should be eating if you're concerned about your weight

Lol, there's no fruit in green juices! So that's that 'theory' out the window!

And who said juicing is only for weight loss??

Wow some people being really nasty and patronising about a diet I'm sure none of them have probably tried.

I have been juicing for years and it has helped me with my skin, spots, eczema, headaches, colds etc.

I don't particularly like fasting but like to replace my snacks and breakfast with juice (I hate eating in the morning so it works for me).

All of a sudden there's people claiming everybody that juices has 'juicarexia' and going on about sugar.

As with most diets this is fine as long as you are sensible. You do what feels right. If you don't feel great on it then eat some salad for lunch, some oatcakes with cottage cheese, some nuts and seeds etc.

Good luck. Smile

Juice as breakfast is fine. Juicing exclusively for a couple of days is fine too but a week is not advisable.

Report
YouTheCat · 04/06/2014 07:39

In fact, looking back, the most qualified person on this thread has said she wouldn't advise this.

Hedgehead · 04/06/2014 08:00

I did it and it as great. You don't actually feel hungry as you're so full of liquid. Afterwards if you taper it off, and eat only veg (soups etc) and fruit for a few days, it prevents the weight going back on

Comparing this to bulimia is utterly ridiculous. And offensive to this with a genuine eating disorder.

Thanks for this words of support. Feel so much better today. We're only doing until Saturday and then onto maybe one juice a day and sensible eating and excercise. My partner is going it too so we're motivating and supporting each other and want to be healthier and fitter for our baby.

youthecat who says a week is fine but any longer isn't?? Did you make that up? Or is it your own 'rules'? And who the heck is qualified ' on this thread' to say what's to be consumed? Which poster? Have you checked these qualifications??

No, didn't think so Hmm

I think we are all 'qualified' to make our own decisions about what we consume, after all, we know how we are feeling and are best placed to decide.

The problem I have with diets like this (and if it works for you, and you're happy, that's great), is that they seem to promote suffering as a way to atone for your previous 'sin' of eating the wrong stuff. It is not fun to live off juice for a week - it's something you're trying to get through, and survive! It's like doing penance.

That's why I like low carbing, and it works for me (though obviously is not for everyone), because I don't get that sense of self-deprivation - I really enjoy what I eat, and honestly prefer eating the low carb way - and that's how I can sustain it in the long term (like years).

I think that the secret to successful long term weight loss is to find a way of eating that you enjoy - I can't imagine many things worse than a lifetime (or a week!) of denial, plus I'm not very good at self-discipline, so would probably fail, and then comes the cycle of guilt/comfort-eating/severe food restriction/failure/guilt ad infinitum.

Best of luck with it, massagegirl, anyway.

Thanks furry. You're right you need to find what works for you... I'd be terrible at low carb (maybe I should give it a go... Am a carb monster!)

I hate these juicing diets. They're so bad for you and so miserable. If you want some quick results, but to be eating nice food and to be full all the time, do a Whole 30. People have hugely dramatic results doing it, but more importantly it's very healthy and sustainable. There is no need for putting yourself through what you are.
