AIBU?

To ask you if I'm going to survive juicing diet

Day 1 today. Hot water and lemon. Then just juice and water.... For 7 days. Am I going to die/shit myself/ steal food from my one year old?
I know it's a fad. But I've let myself go and I need a kick up my fat arse. Anyone done it and survived and got results?

That's interesting 5foot. I have friends who have enjoyed the 5:2.
Chipped nail varnish... My body. My choice. Surely I'm trying to do the right thing but juicing which is meant to be an enormous nutrient hit. If it makes me feel shit I'll stop. If it makes me feel better I'll continue.

Do you add fats and protein to the juices, or just go without fir seven days?

Joules68 · 02/06/2014 13:29

I regularly juice

You don't always 'put it all back on again' Hmm...... Unless you eat your body weight in cookies or something.

Look at it all as a permanent lifestyle change. Incorporate more fruit/veg.... Juiced, in soups, salads etc. I always feel amazing when I fully juice, full of energy, but modern day life makes it difficult.

Exercise and eat well. No processed crap!

My friend did this and lost 10lbs. Unfortunately when she resumed a normal diet the following week it all went back on.

As for fats and protein.... You can add seeds and nuts to juices. As well as yogurt and, my favourite, avocado

I can't 'eat' the amount of spinach/kale/avocado that I use in juices. I use lots. The same with lemons.... So good for you but I can't eat a whole one, so juice it

I also lost 10lb on the lose 5lbs in 5 days ( feb half term) and not put it back on

I ran a half marathon in May straight after being on a 3 day juice session

But I'm fit, healthy and run a lot. Maybe consult a doc first?

I'm a nutritional therapist and 7 days is way longer than I would ever advise so in that sense YABU. If I were you I would see an NT instead of doing this and get some sensible advice tailored just for you. Good luck!

I honestly think a diet of this kind of a LOT of work for not much gain. You'll get results, but it will go back on again. And you will feel TERRIBLE.

Better idea: exercise. Start slow and small and build up gradually. If you work out hard for an hour a day and eat sensibly, it is very hard not to lose weight. I lost 40lbs by running 10k a day, 6 days a week and I felt amazing.

Not sure I would survive but if you look on it as a kick start to a healthy eating regime it may help.

Google green smoothies too. I have been having one a day and sometimes two. You make them up in a blender rather than a juicer so you get the full benefit of the fruit or vegetable. This morning I had kale, almond milk, a banana, some mango and strawberries. I added protein powder and chia seeds. Filling and healthy.

Lunch was tuna and chopped cucumber, spring onions, yellow pepper and cherry tomatoes and kidney beans with some mayo. Dinner will be steak and salad.

No crap carbs but sustainable as I am eating real food.

I feel your pain. I'm doing Carol Vordermans detox, not for the full 28 days I can't cope. I think things like this can give you a good boost to start with and make you feel better in yourself.

Try and do something to take your mind off it?

If you use it as a kick start to healthy eating it's probably fine

I did it for a week, lost 9lbs and have not regained it (over two years ago)

I'm not the weight I want to be yet but I'm now calorie counting (not very well!)

Hope it goes well

YABVU to call another poster a bitch for speaking truthfully and plainly.

Back to the subject - I tried the 7 Day Juice Diet a couple of years ago and I did indeed lose the promised 7lbs in 7 days. But then I put on 10lbs in the following fortnight. So it didn't work.

Diets like this are faddy and dangerous. When you juice fruit, you lose the fibre but you keep all the sugar. Juicing veg is marginally less bad, but you would still a) feel fuller and b) be healthier if you just Ate The Vegetables Whole.

There is no fast way to lose weight and keep it off. And I say this as someone who's spent a decade trying every diet that exists and still managing to be 4 stone overweight at the end of it all.

If I was to do it I would only replace one meal a day with juice.

When I'm feeling a bit porky I make sure I just have soup for lunch. A juiced lunch doesn't seem all that different.

Juice diets are just a socially acceptable form of bulimia.

Binge on crap most of the time, but it doesn't matter as you can just "detox" it away with a 7 day "healthy juice diet" every so often.

They are very unhealthy, physically and psychologically.

That's a little bit overly emotive cream pie...
And not true.

Ha ha creampie what a load of rubbish!

Bulimia is a serious illness, likening it to juicing is ridiculous!

That will be the caffeine withdrawal massage. There's some good juicing fb groups if you need some support. A lot of people on these sites have lost a lot of weight and kept it off but it wasn't for me. I got stomach cramps from it. (Don't think my body was used to the nutrients! ) Wink

Dilligufdarling · 03/06/2014 11:48

Yup - second that re caffeine withdrawal. You should be over that by tomorrow though.
You've inspired me btw - I start my juice week on Sunday!

Same here! I stuff in carrots, celery, spinach, kale, etc etc and brocoli...I couldnt eat that much every day, i am not keen on veggies either so to juice it and get it fresh and unadulterated makes sense to me.

if your over weight you are eating crap somehwere i cant see problem with juicing for a few days and blasting your body with nutrients..

I understand why you want the kick start but the initial weight loss isn't bodyfat, it's down to the depletion of your glycogen stores.

This kind of thing is counterproductive, a more gradual and sustainable strategy would be more likely to result in long term benefits.

Report
Suzannewithaplan · 03/06/2014 12:47

Much of the benefit of vegetables comes from the fibre, with juicing you don't get the fibre.
