To think this is a bit shit of the post office DVLA photo renewal service?

I have to renew the photo card of my driving licence. The closest place to get this done is already half an hours drive away. I can't do it online as my passport is too old. It doesn't look like I can do it by post either. So I have to go in. Which is already a pain as I work full time. But I've just looked at the access requirements. No blue badge parking within 50m. No car park. Access for wheelchair users "with assistance only". So how exactly do I get in there in my wheelchair, with my toddler, on my own?! I can walk with her short distances, struggle short distances in my wheelchair with her on reins, or drive an hour to the next nearest post office.

Angry This is South East England BTW. Hardly the middle of nowhere. Surely they have a responsibility to provide access?!

I just sent a photo in? Why have you got all this going on?

Catsize · 31/05/2014 09:51

Dudn't go to a post office for mine either.

Janethegirl · 31/05/2014 09:55

Our nearest PO has had the camera out of action since Feb, so I'm not happy as it's a good distance to the next one.

You should be able to apply by post according to this page on the Gov.UK website.

wowfudge · 31/05/2014 09:57

You do not have to go anywhere: just send a photo which meets the requirements with the completed form, both parts of your driving licence and a cheque for the fee.

I've just done mine and got the new licence and card back within a week.

The thing that annoyed me was the cost!

Get the photo taken at the supermarket and apply by post. You can order the form online.

Can't you do a Google street view of the PO to see if there are any double yellow lines outside? If it is safe, ie not on a junction, really narrow road, you could park there.

BearsInMotion · 31/05/2014 10:13

Gah. Yes, will pay by post. The option was in a different section on the form I received with a note to say it could be done that way "If you cannot pay by the other methods." Technically I could, but it would be a right pain in the arse.

Thanks everyone Blush. Still think they don't make it clear that this is an option!

I dont think the Post Office or any other shop are responsible for where the blue badge parking is - maybe this is something you could lobby the local council about (not an immediate solution to your problem I realise!)

ForalltheSaints · 31/05/2014 11:01

Another example of the disgraceful service of the Post Office. Remember that Peter Mandelson was the minister when the rot started, appointing a chief executive whose previous experience was at the Football Association (how relevant is that to the Post Office) and a Chairman who had been at a company that went into administration.

merlottime · 01/06/2014 13:42

??? what has that got to do with whether the council have allocated any blue badge parking near to the Post Office?

Andrewofgg · 01/06/2014 14:00

BearsInMotion All art of "Digital by default" which = bully people into using computers when they would rather not by putting the alternatives in the cyber-equivalent of the fine print.

Andrewofgg · 01/06/2014 14:00

*All part, not all art.

BearsInMotion · 01/06/2014 16:38

See, I wouldn't mind doing it all online but they won't let you, unless your passport is less than 5 years old, I'm all for digital!
