To ask someone not to take gravel from our drive

Dh came downstairs yesterday, having looked out of the bedroom window, and said "someone is outside taking gravel from our drive." A man was out there filling mcdonalds cups full of our gravel.

Dh opened the door and asked "can I help you?" The man responded "no" and carried on! Dh then said "could you not take the gravel from our drive please?" And the man eventually shuffled off.

Is this a thing that people do?! Why would he want our gravel?

Weird man.

Maybe he only wanted a little bit for a windowbox and didn't want to buy a 15kg bag of the stuff. No excuse for theft though.

It's going to take him a long time to gravel his own drive if he's only using a Macdonalds cup! Grin

Fairylea · 31/05/2014 08:11

That's really cheeky of him. How rude!

MostlyMama · 31/05/2014 08:35

Did he put it back? What an absolute bastard. :o

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 31/05/2014 08:40

Cheeky git!

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 31/05/2014 08:42

Ha! Some people. Maybe it was for his fish tank? I don't know, it's only cheaper (and cleaner) from the pet shop.

Yanbu and as for him saying 'no' and carrying on. Shock

Only1scoop · 31/05/2014 08:45

Cheeky sod Grin

ILiveOnABuildsite · 31/05/2014 08:57

Long shot but maybe he didn't realized it was a private drive and thought the gravel was fair game?!? Probably not but I like to give the benefit of the doubt.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/05/2014 08:59

Are you on a street, in a village or isolated on a beaten track?

How weird, can't think of a reason he'd need gravel

MummyPig24 · 31/05/2014 09:07

We live on a residential street in a large village and our car was parked on the driveway. I don't think it's for a fish tank as it's pretty big stones. Not really gravel but I don't know what else you would call it. He had 3 McDonald's cups, and Dh said he saw him then opening a container on his mobility scooter and pouring the stones in! I recognise him, he's a bit of a local character and I think he lives on the same street as us.

I can't believe he didn't look shifty or apologise when caught in the act!

MostlyMama · 31/05/2014 11:24

Drive-by gravel theft then? The mind boggles.

MammaTJ · 31/05/2014 11:27

Sorry OP but I can't help laughing at the mobility scooter drive by theft!

Only1scoop · 31/05/2014 11:46

Op he will be doing a drive thru for a refill Grin

Certainly sounds a character

I just saw him walking past. No scooter or cups today. He's obviously had his fill!

We use gravel in the bottom of planters to help the soil drain. You're assisting him in creating a beautiful garden OP Grin

scarletforya · 31/05/2014 13:03

In a previous house I used to have gravel in the garden and constantly came home to find it strewn all over the road.

It was kids but I never caught them.

How annoying and rude of him.

MummyPig24 · 31/05/2014 16:47

The kids next door often try to pick up handfuls but their mum does always make them put it back.

His garden had better look bloody lovely. Who knows how long he's been doing it for!
