Should the mother of the bride (Who is paying for wedding) go to help choose dresses for bridesmaids?

or is it ok/normal for the bride to go and do this with her bridesmaids without mother present?

I work in a bridal shop and often feel the bridesmaid dresses are always more difficult to choose than the bride.

I think your friend needs to step back and not take it as a personal slight. The bride is probably feeling the pressure of trying to please a lot of people and maybe just wants a stress free day with her bridesmaids.
