Teens travelling

My daughter is almost 15 and wants to go travelling (by bike) with a couple of friends and stay in youth hostels around the country. I think shes a bit young, not to mention the worry of traffic issues.
Anyone else with similar experiences?/emo/te/9.gif

If it weren't for the age policy at the youth hostels I'd say go for it. As long as they are sensible, and can read a map they are very unlikely to be at greater risk than the 16 everyone is suggesting.

Nobody has yet explained to me why it's "too young. End of."

AgentProvocateur · 28/05/2014 12:31

Hakluyt, it was two years ago. I'm not sure that they had membership. They mostly camped, and stayed in two hostels. They just turned up and paid, I think. IIRC, the other mum had vouchers for hostels maybe through tesco, or maybe they had family membership.

They were both strapping rugby players - they looked over 15, and it was the Scottish Highlands. Things are more relaxed there.

It is jolly good it can't be stopped when they are over 18yrs or some parents would never cut the apron strings!

Good point Delphiniumsblue - although there are other threads that make me think some try very hard not to for at least another 3-4 years... the number of threads where parents seem to be packing for university for their 18 year old, or trying to organise their gap or sandwich year for them ... wonder if the adult children know how involved their parent is trying to be, and is squirming, or is so infantalised or chronically lazy they are happy to let mummy organise everything... Confused
