I think most people use the terms interchangeably? Toilet trained / potty trained, both just terms for no more nappies IMO. Most people that potty train will have the DCs using the toilet as well as soon as they are out of nappies otherwise you'd have to take potties everywhere with you. We used both as we have no upstairs toilet, so the DCs had potties in their rooms they could use if they needed to in the night instead of finding their way downstairs.

Girl 2 years 3 months. Had it mastered in a week. Dry in night at 2 years 7 months

This is an interesting thread. I always thought girls would master it sooner too for some reason. Hmm

DD has a few years to go before potty training, so it's good to know a ballpark age to keep it in mind for.

DS1 told me he was done with diapers at 2.7, and was trained two weeks later.

The boy was 2yrs 10months (3rd attempt)

The girl was 22 months (first attempt)

MummyPig24 · 31/05/2014 07:19

At night ds was 4yrs 6mths and dd was 4yrs 2mths.

2.8 for DD but she did it herself. One day she said she no longer wanted diapers, had a couple of accidents for the first week and has been fine since. I did reward with stickers and praise but it was her decision.

Just over 3, boy

DS 2.10. Didn't "potty train" just said "we have run out of nappies, let's wear big boy pants like older cousins."

Had maybe three accidents but was dry day and night straight away. I had waited until he was noticeably dry in the day, i.e either the nappy was completely dry or soaking wet and he'd started waking up in the morning with a dry nappy.

Dd, 2 years 1 month
Ds, 2 years 5 months

keepyourchinupdear · 31/05/2014 08:13

Ds was totally dry, night & day at 3yrs 9 months. He was fully toilet trained (during the day - wee&poo) at 2yrs 9 months but had a nasty virus & regressed.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/05/2014 08:15

DS 2.2 years day, by 2.3 he was fine at night as well.

DD 2.3 day and 3.1 night.

If you are getting nowhere, just try to relax a little. All children take time and it isn't something they are going to get in a couple of days.

My tops tips are:

Get a copy of Successful Potty Training by Heather Welford. It will help you to relax. It's not a how to, but does contain many useful tips and stories from other parents.

If not pooing on the potty is a problem, let Lo have a nappy on for poos. You can deal with that issue once you've cracked the wees.

Make sitting on the potty something they want to do, don't keep saying "do you want to go on the potty". Let them watch cbeebies, read a book or even eat a snack whilst on there. I started off by just sitting them on it whilst I ran their bath.

Make a HUGE fuss if they produce anything but don't even mention it if they don't or if they have an accident.

Don't use pull ups, use cloth nappies if you can. They really do encourage being dry.

Dd 18 months
DS 2.10 no where near! He's terrified of using his potty or sitting on the toilet with a toddler seat.

Any tips???
