Im in potty training hell and Im wondering if I should just quit for a few more months.

Started off great, now (day 4) hes having accidents and holding on to his poo.

He is 3 years 8 days old.

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 27/05/2014 15:15

Someone tell me how to do the poos. She knows when she has to go, asks for a pull-up, goes in a corner and poos. She knows. If I try to encourage her to the toilet she gets really anxious. If I try to encourage her to the point she actually sits down on the toilet, she withholds and gets constipated. Arrgghh.

Wees fine everywhere.

makeminea6x · 27/05/2014 15:15

Re 2 in nappies. Am currently training DC1 and honestly can't see how 2 in nappies is more hassle than having to remind someone someone to use the loo! Unless they're cloth I suppose but that's outside of my experience.

My DD seems to be upside down - she has been sporadically doing poos on the potty for a long time but is less aware of wees!

Groovee · 27/05/2014 15:19

Dd, announced at 2.6 "I need my potty now!"
Ds, announced no more nappies at 2.9 and was dry in 2 days.

HeisenbergsHat · 27/05/2014 15:19

DD was 3.4 and had delayed speech which was why I left it quite late. DS was 2.3, they're 13 months apart so they trained at the same time.
It took one afternoon and a box of chocolates. They didn't have any accidents, but I did send them for wees quite often. It took DD much longer to do a poo on the loo though, she'd wait for her bedtime nappy and go in that.

ImNotCrazy · 27/05/2014 15:20

Currently toilet training Ds who is 3.3, we started last Monday and had a few accidents each day at nursery but on the Friday he stayed dry and there hasn't been any accidents since. He's picked it up really quickly and will just take himself off to the toilet now so i don't need to keep asking him. Early days though and it will be difficult when we go for days out but so far so good. If i were you i would keep going for another and wait to see if there is any progress before stopping.

exexpat · 27/05/2014 15:22

One boy, one girl, both potty trained during the day at about 2 years 9 months. DD was dry at night as well almost immediately, but DS not until he was nearly 4.

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2014 15:23

Ds - 2.8
Dd - 2.3

Both asked to wear pants and mastered wees and poos, night and day at once.

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2014 15:24

It took ds about a fortnight to master, dd about 4 days.

MrsBungle · 27/05/2014 15:25

Dd was 2 years 1 month. I've not tried with ds yet (2 last week) as I don't think he's anywhere near ready to get it.

I wouldn't give up at 4 days - that's just when dd turned the corner.

DragonMamma · 27/05/2014 15:27

DD - 2.5yrs. Dry at night at 3.5yrs
DS - just before 3 but was dry at night straight away

LoblollyBoy · 27/05/2014 15:27

DD was just about to turn three, I think.

Shakirasma · 27/05/2014 15:28

DD1 3yrs 2months
DD2 2yrs 11 months
DS 5yrs 7 months, he's autistic but he got there in the end.

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2014 15:29

Three boys, all sorted by 2.5.

DS3 was quickest. I started him later than the others and he was clean & dry day & night in 4 days. Couldn't believe it.

DirtyWeeRascal · 27/05/2014 15:36

Ooo OP your DS us the exact same age as mine! On day 2 of potty/ toilet training here (after some aborted attempts in the past four months). We have had two wees in the toilet so far and a fair few on the floor! Biggest problem seems to be getting him to stop playing to try - much bribery with stickers and chocolates going on!

ruthsmumkath · 27/05/2014 15:46

Dc1 girl - 3 years 3 months
Dc2 boy- 2 years 8 months
Dc3 girl - 3 years 6 months.

ChatEnOeuf · 27/05/2014 15:52

DD 2.1, now 2.9 and not even close to thinking about dry at night. Had a little regression just after Christmas for a few days, but chocolate button bribery worked a treat.

BookieTubules · 27/05/2014 15:53

DD - 2.5
DS - 2.6

Both got it in a couple of days, daytime and nightime at the same time.

5madthings · 27/05/2014 15:56

Ds1 18mths
Ds2 2.8
Ds3 2.5
Ds4 3.4
dd 2.6

They all let me know when they were ready and we're dry in days, ds2 took a bit longer to get the hang of poos and ds4 was funny about using public toilets for a while but all did it with minimum fuss.

DavenotChas · 27/05/2014 16:00

23 months girl, mastered within 3 days. We'd tried her 2 months before due to a spell of great weather and it was carnage. I firmly believe they have to be ready and if that's at 18 months or 3 and a half so be it. She was dry overnight within a month of potty training which I think shows that it is led by the child rather than anybody else

cashmiriana · 27/05/2014 16:01

DD1 22 months, day and night, her decision. We had a potty but I'd never even shown it to her.

DD2 2.3 in the day (took three days) 3.1 at night.

3y 6m
3y 11m

Neither were trained. They decided pants were the future and that was it. No nappies or pull up pants and zero accidents.

BurdenedWithGloriousPurpose · 27/05/2014 16:07

Oops, both boys.

halfdrunktea · 27/05/2014 16:07

2.11 years - boy. He just didn't get it before that.

Mondayschild78 · 27/05/2014 16:11

I'm also on day 4 of potty training with DS1 who is 2.7 and I'm wavering slightly as not sure how well it is going. He understands what he needs to do and has had lots of successes with wees but poos are going to be another story I think.

Everyone who's been through it that I know has told me to give it at least a week then decide whether to go back to nappies for a bit or not.

Great thread for reminding us that they all get there in the end.
