AIBU to refuse to pay my hotel bill?

I'm staying in an expensive 5* hotel in Manchester. There is a wedding going on 4 floors below our rooms with a live band blasting music that is keeping us all awake. I've called to ask how long it is going to carry on for and have been told 1am! WTAF???? I've spoken to the manager who basically said tough, it's a wedding and some disturbance is to be expected in a hotel with a function room. Err...since when it is acceptable for a hotel to sell bedrooms in the knowledge that guests will be disturbed by wedding noise? If they'd told me when I booked the rooms last week that we would have to put up with disturbance I would have chosen to stay somewhere else.

AIBU to expect a substantial discount on my hotel bill since the hotel has not delivered what I was paying for - a decent night's sleep?

When I read the title I was prepared to say YABU...

But I would be pretty angry too if I were you. Make a complaint, ask for a refund... Everything else failing a review on tripadvisor.

Absolutely not unreasonable to expect a substantial discount. I would also phone down to Reception every half hour to log another complaint about the noise.

Is it possible for you to either record the disturbance on your phone, or ask for the night manager to come and listen from your room to acknowledge the noise.

Alternatively, I would be tempted to ring either 101 or the council noise team and report it.

I would certainly speak to the manager again, and raise it with the manager tomorrow when it comes to check out time.
I would be very annoyed if I were kept up till after 1am.

Yanbu. I would be furious and I would expect a huge discount.

1pm is extremely late and I would very worried about the guests making noise afterwards.

The manager acknowledged the noise. He said there was nothing he could do about it.

YANBU - How dare some skanky Mancs want to keep you from your beauty sleep in your 5* hotel. I suggest you shit the bed and steal the cosy fluffy towels. That'll show 'em! Hmm

I complained at a 5* hotel I was staying at for work (oh, those were the days...) for similar reasons, and I have a letter giving me a discount next time I stay.

Can't actually afford to stay there at my own expense, even with a discount, and don't work for that company any more, but you never know...

Frankly I'd be pissed off it was the Premier Inn but I expect a 5* hotel to be managed better.

YANBU-premier inn gave me a free. Night when whitbreads Christmas party was happening in October. I'd've been much more pissed off if it was a 5* hotel

There are only a couple of 5*hotels in Manchester - have you looked on tripadvisor? have other people had problems with noise?

He is lying if he says he can't do anything, he can give you your room for free. Angry

I'd also leave and find a premier inn nearby with some beds. Fwiw, we were given the family room at BILs wedding, right above the speakers at the wedding disco. Because we were guests at the wedding we had no choice but to pay the £150 price tag for the night despite having a 6m old.

Urg....have resorted to watching the European election results! Dull enough that I may drop off eventually. I so needed a good night's sleep tonight.

When we have had works Christmas does in posh hotels, their function rooms have been in the basement and well sound proofed.

Perfectly possible to have quite drink in a bar far nearer than any of the rooms.
